Jane Crichton LEIPER

LEIPER, Jane Crichton 1923 - 2015 Jane Crichton Leiper 92, passed away peacefully at her home in Windsor, California on May 11, 2015. Jane was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, yet spent her adult life in various locations within the United States and overseas. She studied under full scholarships at Macalester College and Yale Divinity School before being assigned by the Presbyterian Missionary Board to serve with her husband as a missionary in northern China. Following the death of her husband, Henry Martyn Welling (Hal) Leiper in 1960, she developed a 30 year career that emphasized her commitment to a life of service in Christ's name, towards peace and justice and to influence international policy and young people's lives. Positions she held included being, Executive Assistant to the Director of Programs at the Church Center for the United Nations, National Council of Churches; Residence Director at the International House at the University of California, Berkeley; Associate Director of the National Council of Churches in Washington D.C., and lastly, as Executive Director of the US-China People's Friendship Association. After retirement, she served in the Peace Corps in Thailand, and taught English in schools and colleges in Cambodia and China. Jane is survived by her children, Margaret Leiper de Monchy, Heather Leiper Boone, Bruce Leiper and Scott Leiper; eight grandchildren; Lissa de Monchy, Cory Boone, Scott Boone, Will Boone, Devi O'Malley, Thida Leiper, Malika Leiper and Hal Leiper; and three great-grandchildren, Isabelle Jenne Boone, Hailey Rose Boone and Eloise Mae Leiper. Her family, extended family and many friends will miss her and cherish her memory. A memorial service will be held on June 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at Christ Church United Methodist, 1717 Yulupa Avenue, Santa Rosa, California. Donations in her memory may be made to The Salvation Army.
