"What is the government without energy? And what is a man without energy? Nothing --- nothing at all." -- Mark Twain

If asked to describe Russell with one a single word, it certainly would be energy. Whatever he did, whatever he felt, whatever he believed, he did it with a determination that few could match, and none could exceed.

And yet, with all of his competitive spirit, as our good friend Steve wrote to me, "there was not a malevolent bone in his body." He never spoke ill of anyone, even some who may have treated him rather shabbily.

Russ inherited his father's great sense of humor and ready smile that made him a boon companion to all.

He married Elaine when they were quite young. They formed a bond that lasted 50 years, and would have endured 50 more years had he not been untimely taken from us.

Russell was always a pioneer and innovator. He was first in the area to adopt new and advanced construction techniques in the many structures that he built, including the use of pneumatic scammers and forklift trucks to lighten the workload of his men while improving the quality of the buildings for the customers.

He learned to pilot his own airplane, an accomplishment of which he was justifiably proud.

But of all the many things that he did, none were as important as the fine, solid character that he exhibited --- a trusty friend to all who knew him, and a pleasure to be with in good times and bad.

Russell was a fine man, always cheerful and happy, friendly to all. His many friends will miss him. Sincere condolences to Elaine, Deborah and Samuel. We lost a good friend; they lost a tower of strength, and a devoted husband and father.
