Beatrice J. Whitted

Our beloved Mrs. Beatrice J. Whitted departed this life suddenly on Monday, July 26, 2010, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

Beatrice was born to the late Irene Jones and Charlie Chambliss on Jan. 15, 1927.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Hoover Whitted. Beatrice is well known and loved. Affectionately known as "Bea," "Bea Baby," "Peter Rabbit" and "Sunshine," she was in the business of people. She enjoyed talking and laughing with anyone, anytime, anyplace. She will be remembered for her warm smile, loving heartand sharp wit.

Beatrice loved cooking, her homemade buttered rolls and sweet tea have been enjoyed by many. Her most cherished moments are being surrounded by her family.

Beatrice leaves to celebrate her life two daughters, Barbara Phillips and Cassandra Hines (Riddle); two sons, Herbert Leon Whitted (Deborah) and Gregory Whitted (Rosalind); stepdaughter, Marva Hicks; seven grandchildren, Tawanda Meade, Kisele Hines, LaMeka Harrison (Marco), Terrance Taylor (Shirnelle), Gregory Whitted Jr., Cedric Whitted and Tynika Whitted; eight great-grandchildren, Corey Meade, Jerelle Hudgins, Allen Holmes, Que'Asia Pettaway, Dominick Davis Jr., Diamond Joyner, Terrance Taylor Jr., and Marco Harrison Jr.; a great-great-grandchild, Jaelah Meade; two sisters, Nellie Bonner and Eleanor Meade; godchildren, Diane Mason, Jerri Via and Clarissa Byrd; uncle, George Winfield, Willie Fobbs; extended family, Daisy, Linda and Marilyn Hill; devoted friends, Mable Nixon, Wilma Massenburg, William "Red Cap" Drew and the Gillhaven family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A special thank you to the nurses and aides of 2-East at Southside Regional Medical Center for the care they gave "Mrs. Whitted."

Funeral service will be held noon Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 800 Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Grady W. Powell Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
