Bertina Macklin Obituary
She was a native of Petersburg, Va. She was the daughter of the late Major Powell and Willie Mae Luckett. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven Smith and Curtis Luckett.
She was known in life for her many contributions to society through her work as a special education teacher, social worker, school bus driver, cheerleading coach and a recreational instructor.
Bertina accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Harvest International Church of Petersburg, Va., for several years. She was an indispensable asset to the community.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving daughter, Maticia Macklin and a loving son, Mack Macklin Jr.; four sisters, Brenda Blackwell, Nadine Hudgens, Veronica Hayes and Courtney Powell; four brothers, Rowland Luckett (Benita), Master Sgt. Major Luckett (Sheryl), Tracey Powell and Carl Powell; eight loving grandchildren, Amari, Brittini, Bryan, Soniya, Areyion, Indya, Genesis and Mackenzie. In addition to her children, Bertina leaves to cherish her memory, her ex-husband and friend, Mack Macklin; two brothers-in-law, Jerome (Sarah) and Sellis (Martha); five sisters-in-law, Wynoetta (Joseph), Cynthia (Stephen), Brenda (Gilmore), Theresa and Iona (Nelson). Mrs. Macklin has numerous devoted nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives, cousins and caring friends too numerous to name.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Ave., Va. The Rev. Iona Beasley, will be eulogist. The interment to follow in Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 4802 River Road, Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted by calling 804-721-5560.
