Rosa Reid Obituary

On Oct. 31, 2010, Mrs. Rosa Gloria Smith Reid, 68, known to the family and friends as "Aunt Glo or Glo", of 205 Witten St., Petersburg, Va., departed this life at her residence. She was born on Jan. 26, 1942, to the late Edmonia Jones Smith. Glo was the eldest of five children, her oldest brother, George Washington Smith, preceded her in death.

Rosa accepted Christ at a very young age and later joined Morning Star Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va., where she continued to be a faithful member until her health began to fail. Even though she did not have any children, all that came in contact with her immediately became her adoptive children. Rosa worked at Richards Winery on Pocahontas Island for more than 20 years and continued to work at Solar Optical after that for many years. She had been a resident of the Pocahontas Island community for more than 30 years.

If you knew anything about Aunt Glo then you knew she was a true child of God. At any time you could find her either praying or praising the Lord. She was always happy and you could always see a beautiful smile on her face. She had a love for flowers and had that "green thumb" that could make anything that she touched grow. She had a heart made from gold and was one of the most caring, giving, forgiving and loving people anyone could come into contact with, the backbone of the family, the person that everyone could rely on.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters and a brother, Shirley Baird, Roberta Whitehead and Leander "Boo-Boo" Jones Jr., two uncles, Ralph Jones and Samuel Jones (Virginia), one brother-in-law, Edmond T. Baird, all of Petersburg; and a very devoted niece, Ms. Angelique Whitehead; devoted friend, Ms. Linda Twitty Barrett of Lanham Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 418 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs Sr., pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at 205 Witten St., Petersburg, Va.

Family members and friends are invited to pay final tribute to Mrs. Reid online at www.jmwilkersonsince1874.com where you may view a video tribute online or at the establishment.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the staff of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va., (804) 732-8911, www.jmwilkersonsince1874.com.
