Royal Smith Obituary

Mr. Royal Lee Smith Jr., also known as "Chink," 57, of 1034 Elliott Avenue, Petersburg, Va., departed this life on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, Richmond, Va.

Royal was born Jan. 1, 1953, in Petersburg, Va., to Royal L. Smith Sr. and Shirley Smith. He attended Petersburg Public School system. He was employed by Central State Transportation Department, Bellwood, The City of Colonial Heights and Boulevard Cab.

Royal was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. He was a member of The Kat Club and Club 17.

Royal enjoyed working on cars, fishing, playing cards, eating Kentucky Fried Chicken and watching his favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Royell Smith; grandson, Malik Smith parents, Royal L. Smith Sr. and Shirley Smith and friends, Jack "Baby Head" Cole, James "Bofields" Fields and Melody "Mat" Holmes.

Royal leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Terry M. Smith; children, Royal Long (Michele), Chakita Smith, Kizzy Gill, Dominique Orr, Royal Smith III (Shevon), Renea Morgan, Tiera Smith, Rashaun Smith and Riquita Williams; 16 grandchildren, Kimauri Briggs, Nikitra Smith, Treyàna Long, Jaydin Long, Tyliyah Henderson, Tyrone Henderson Jr., Dominique Orr Jr., Amayah Orr, Anycah Orr, Atorica Smith, Aneshae Smith, Micah Marshall, Ayanah Smith, Dre'on McCrae, Kamiya Bailey-Smith and Xavier Morgan; brothers, Gene Smith (Marcey), Raymond Smith (Syliva), Alfred Smith and Kenneth Smith; sisters, Roylice Brack and Regina Tate (Rex); aunts, Ethel Glen and Catherine Loften (James); uncles, Andrew Briggs (Cherry), Rev. Dr. Roy Briggs (Amanda), David Briggs (Kim), William Jackson (Mary) and Melvin Smith; devoted mother-in-law, Carolyn Massenburg; devoted father-in-law, Vance Harris; brothers-in-law, Toral Massenburg and Xavier Porter; sister-in-law, Latoya Porter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, among them devoted Curtis Pegram, Mike Glen and Greg Briggs, other relatives and friends, among them devoted and dear friends, Julia Cole, Alfred "Slim" Smith, Marvin Butts, Ellen Massenburg, Mrs. Butts, Nu-Nu, the Rev. Harold Lewis Sr., Kim Morris and Richard Massenburg.

A special thanks to the Adult Health Care Solution for the devoted and caring service.

A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Va., with the Rev. Jeffery L. Reaves, pastor, officiating.

The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1034 Elliott Avenue, Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted at 804-861-5085.
