Sonya Starke Obituary
She was predeceased by one daughter, Desiree Starke; parents, James and Gladys Starke; one brother, Wayne V. Starke; two sisters, Gail C. and Paulette M. Starke; uncles, the Rev. G. L. Walker and Vernon Starke; and aunt, Vivian Frazier.
She leaves behind one devoted and loving daughter, Destaney "Missy"/"My Girl"; a very special and devoted lifelong friend, David L. Batts Sr., whom she loved deeply; three grandchildren whom she loved without limits, D'Shani Myarn Smith, D'Shon MyKai Starke and Dior Christian Barnes. Also to cherish her memories, three sisters, Evonne (Russell) and Kim Starke, both of Petersburg, Va., and Sabrina Y. Starke of Columbia, S.C.; four brothers, Ronnie, Kevin (Linda) and Kerwin (Gloria), all of Petersburg, Va., and Jawanza Salih (Lisa) of Cincinnati, Ohio; six nieces; four nephews, eight great-nieces and nephews; four loving and devoted aunts who saw the best in her, Helen Horn of Massapequa, N.Y., Geraldine McLaughlin of Chester, Va., Bernice Thomas and Dr. Antrynette Wall Hall, both of Petersburg, Va.; a host of cousins, other relatives, among them very special cousins, Joyce Jones and family, and Michael Bowles. Quinette was loved and cherished by many special friends, among them, Tracy Owens, Clara Batts, Agnes Batts and Diana Gibson.
If Quinette could have some final words, it would be to all, "I Love Ya Aite!"
A funeral service for Ms. Sonya Starke will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, at Royal Baptist Church, 316 St. Mark St., Petersburg, Va, the Rev. Dr. Phillip Williams, pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at 204 North Carolina Ave., Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted by calling (804) 957-6547 or (804) 605-0544.

To the Starke family....I was overwhelmed with saddness when I heard of Sonya's passing. Sonya and I were childhood friends. Although we went our separate ways as we became adults Sonya remained her true self and the few times our paths did cross she still had the same smile and could call my name like no other. She will be greatly missed.Petersburg will not be the same without her!!

"It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday"! My heart was saddened for life to hear about my BESTEST FRIEND SONYA had taken flight. Only God knew what was best for her. I must accept the things I cannot change and pray that God will give the family the courage to change the things that they can and the wisdom to know the difference. My prayers will always be with the Starke family and know that "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal"!
