Ruth McKenney Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Conaway Wyatt McKenney, 86, of 14212 Gatewood Road, DeWitt, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the Kindred Health Care Center, Richmond.

She was born in Dinwiddie County on Dec. 5, 1923, to the late William and Augusta Brown Wyatt. She received her formal education in Dinwiddie County. After graduation she met and married the late Ben McKenney, and moved about with her husband during his military career but they spent most of their time in Savannah, Ga., and he retired in Fort Lee, Va., back at her birth place, and retired from Central State Hospital. She was a member of Mount Level Baptist Church. She was predeceased by 12 siblings.

She leaves to cherish memories of her two sons, Benjamin E. McKenney (Debra) of Killen, Texas, and Alan McKenney of DeWitt; a loving and devoted sister, Marggie W. Howell of New York; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday, Sept. 3, at the Mount Level Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Bernard Coleman. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the home place at 1 o'clock on Friday. The body will be view on Thursday from noon until 8 o'clock at the funeral home in McKenney. Funeral services entrusted to the Joseph M. Johnson & Son Funeral Home, 11107 Doyle Blvd., McKenney, Va., (804) 478-4411.

She was my friend and my confidant. I loved her as I did my own mother. She was patient, caring, loving to no end, forgiving like no other. So terribly wounded I am at this time and she not here to comfort me. I know she is in a better place now and all her suffering is over. Aunt Conaway I will forever miss you and love you.
