Raymond Brooks Obituary

Raymond Orel Brooks Jr., 71, of Colonial Heights, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the Medical College of Virginia.

He was the son of the late Raymond Orel Brooks Sr. and Ada Maupin Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a retired civil service computer specialist.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Brooks; son, Robert Brooks of San Diego; daughters, Karen Brooks and husband, Robert Perks, of Rockville, Md., Kimberly Barrow and husband, Michael, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren Brooks Perks, Logan Barrow, Madison Barrow, Abigail Barrow; one sister, Faye Bodie of Apopka, Fla.; one brother, Larry Brooks of Tampa, Fla.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Rev. David Prather officiating. Interment private. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 3401, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, in memory of Raymond. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.

I knew Ray from working at his dentist office. He was one of the patients you remember as such a nice guy. It was always a joy to see him at the office or even just to call him on the phone. He was one of those guys that made the job a little less stressful. I am sorry to hear that he has left this World, but I am thankful he is now Doing Better.
