Blanche Bridge Obituary
Mrs. Bridge worked at Tuskeegee Institute (now University) Veterans Hospital; Sea View Hospital in New York; Norfolk Naval Base Hospital; Memorial Hospital at Virginia State College (now University); Petersburg General Hospital (now Southside Regional Medical Center) and retired from Kenner Army Hospital at Fort Lee, Va. She was a member of the Mary Carter Beacon House Board of Directors. Blanche served as a volunteer for Crater Community Hospice; the Red Cross; Petersburg Literacy Council and numerous health fairs.
She was a member of Gillfield Baptist Church. Her other memberships include: Charter member of the Petersburg Chapter of Epicureans Incorporated; Women's Committee Petersburg Symphony Orchestra; Silhouettes (Wives of Kappa Alpha Psi); Archousi (Alpha Beta Boule' Sigma Pi Phi) and the Wives of the Beaux Twenty.
In 1947, she married Dr. Thomas C. Bridge, a World War II Navy veteran and musician. Dr. Bridge preceded her in death April of 2004. They had a son, Thomas Bridge Jr. (now deceased); and a daughter, Constance.
She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted and faithful duaghter, Constance; a grandson, Cedric Bridge; brother-in-law, Ora Herbert Ellis Sr.; nephews, Ora Herbert Ellis Jr. and Jeffrey W. Ellis; and numerous cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg, where the pastor, Dr. George Lyons, will officiate; Rev. Robert Blake will eulogize. The Epicureans and the Links will hold their memorial service at 11 a.m., prior to the service.

Dear family and friends of Blanch Bridge ... Our friendship with Mrs. Bridge and her late husband Thomas go back over thirty years. Blanch is where we will be one day, GOD willing. She is rejoicing in GOD'S magnificence. The Bridges made many friends during their lifetime, and we are two friends that will always cherish their memory. God Bless you Mrs. Bridge. You will be missed greatly. P.S. Say hello to Thomas for us.

Constance, so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I know how you feel because I lost my mother in 2001. God will fill the space in your life that your mother held. Remember all the good times and what she taught you. Keep your hand in God's Hand and He will direct your Path. Love You
