George Grammer Obituary

Mr. George Grammer, of 2210 Berry St., Hopewell, departed this life Monday morning, Jan. 23, 2012, at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell.

He was born June 27, 1938, to the late Ira and Annie Belle Williams Grammer. Preceding him in death were his sister, Jannie Grammer; six brothers, James, Nathaniel and Ira Grammer, David, Herman and Sim Williams. At a young age he attended Mount Hope Baptist Church, Prince George. Mr. Grammer worked as a truck driver at Fort Lee.

Surviving are: a devoted wife, Mrs. Mildred Peet-Grammer of Hopewell; a stepson, Robert Tims; a daughter, Virginia Pierce (Ronzell); three stepdaughters, Deborah Kidd (Michael), Verlon Collins (Robert) and Lillian Mabry (Darryl); a brother, Raymond Grammer (Ernestine); two sisters, Josephine Berry and Maggie Thomas; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Steve White (Carolyn); four sisters-in-law, Lossie Mae Williams, Cynthia Givens (Wayne), Nancy Urquhart (John) and Angela Gray (John); several nieces and nephews, among them devoted are Annie Mae Berry, Alesha Berry, Ann Killingback, Wayne Creighton-Bey and Eddie Berry, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the chapel of the Turner-Bland Funeral Home, Hopewell. Elder Charles Pender will officiate. The interment will be in the Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell.

The family will receive friends at the chapel of Turner-Bland Funeral Home from 7 to 8 Friday evening.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Turner-Band Funeral Home, Hopewell, the Rev. William N. Bland Jr., funeral director, www.blandenterprisesinc.com.

To my family uncle George is gone but, his memories will be with us forever.He was more to me than just my uncle. He was a father figure,a role model, my rock to lean on, my best friend.I loved my uncle George. I will truely miss him.
