To the entire Family and Friends of Jaime C. Newman,
Thinking of all of you. Your hearts are in my prayers of comfort and strength and healing. Trust in God and and accept the way He planned and believe that sometime, somewhere He'll help us understand. Amen.

My heart is saddened, but I know you are alright Jaime.
A memory of you as JROTC at JFKHS on my graduation day ('99)... after I marched across that stage I had to go down the stairs to get back onto the floor. You were there. I squeezed your reached out hand tighter and tighter each step I took down those steps. I was so nervous I thought I was going to fall but you held on til I was back on the floor but you didn't let me fall. Through all that short moment you gave me a big smile but didn't laugh. I will always remember your smile and your helping hand of trust. So humble and kind. Thank you for holding me and so many others up when we were about to fall. May God bless your family, children, and everyone in your life and those who may not have that hand that they find it in God first.

Now you have been uplifted to heavenly glory and watching from above in the good hands of God.

October 28, 2010

Your heart feels like it is breaking and each day you awake you open your eyes and hope that it has been a terrible dream, but it's not. Each holiday will be a raw reminder of Jamie not being there. The pain will lessen, and you will begin to put your lives back together. You will heal and you will always have the beautiful memories to last a life time.

I should have wrote in this alot sooner but I couldn't find the strength to do so! You meant everything to me, and I mean everything! You and I had a connection that I don't think anyone could understand. Never have I met a person who knew me better than I knew myself. My heart is so broken right now. I truly believed we were soulmates. I knew you were mine! A memory that stands out to me was the day that you left. All day I couldn't focus I was dreading 6pm because I knew you had to report then. We had webcamed before you left and I kept my composure because I didn't want you worrying about me. Because two days before I had just saw in at the airport I was a big baby and you were worried so I didn't want that to worry you this time. Well that night I was crying so much and I was emailing you and all and then you called me. You said only reason I called was because I know you would be crying/sad right now. I felt so special! You loved that 8 page letter I had wrote you as well. I just loved how you knew me so well! All I can think about is what we always said to each other before we got off the phone, or when we were leaving each other- forever and for always(I even got that tattooed on me you were shocked but happy), til death, by any means necessary. I didn't know death would come so soon though. All I have now are my memories of you, I will hold onto them forever. I Know I will never meet anyone like you again. I know for sure I was blessed to have known you and to have gotten the chance to be with someone as great as you. You were the best man I ever knew Jaime. You will be in my heart forever. I'm living for you know Jaime! Love your one and only Yasmine

Dear Newman family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jaime will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

For days I have been trying to find the words to say and for days I have drawn a blank. It's hard to accept the fact that someone who was apart of my life for almost 10 years is no longer on this Earth. Now who is going to come in my house and try to run things like they live there? Who do I have to "argue" with everyday via e-mail? Our daughter won't have you to scare her first boyfriend or have you at her wedding. You won't be there to see her graduate. But I know without a doubt that you are watching over her and DJ for they meant the world to you and you meant the world to them. The bible says "what greater love is this that a man lay down his life for his friends?" and "Earth has no pain that Heaven can't heal" so I take comfort in knowing that you laid down your life for us, your friends and family. You will always have a place in my heart and I will never forget you. Everytime I look into our baby girl's eyes I see you and it reminds me to be strong and keep going for her. So until we meet again, Rest in Paradise my hero

To the parents of SSG Jaime Newman,
You don't know us, but we feel we have gotten to know your son by reading about him. Through research, we found his picture in the NPR article online showing him as he was navigating thru the grape fields. My daughter's class had "adopted" your son and was going to send care packages to him every month. Only one had gone out so far. We are so sad to hear of his passing. The children at Deer Valley Elementary were very sad when they heard the news. We are very proud of his service to our country. From reading your guest log, he sounds like a wonderful, strong, respectful and kind man. Our prayers are with your family. Nini Crockett

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms S/Sgt. Jaime Newman. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jaime. And to Jaime it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jaime, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jaime’s family and loved ones.

Jaime, I never knew you but my family loves you. As a matter-of-fact, before today I had never heard your name, just as you had not heard mine, but...my family mourns your passing.
As a former George Wythe JROTC cadet, I too understand "Duty, Honor, Country." Jaime understood it and practiced it to the max. He understood "Be all you can be."
Forget baseball and football, forget rock stars, forget NASCAR, it is men and women like Jaime Newman who are the real HEROES AND STARS of this nation.
Because of Jaime, my grandchildren slept well last night. I thank you Jaime and your entire family.
"There is no greater love than this, that a man would lay down his life for a friend." Jaime did that for many friends.
The Good Book says that the first shall be last and the last shall be first. In the next life, Jaime will be FIRST.
Please remember 'Amazing Grace,' "When we've been there 10,000 years..." That is only a twinkle in God's eyes and it is coming soon.
The next time you see the flag, remember that the red stripes represent the blood of our troops.
To the Newman family; may God bless and keep each of you and remember, there are those out there that you do not know who love and respect you.

Our deepest sympathy to the family and siblings of SSGT Newman. Another one of America's sons have fallen and it will not go unnoticed or underappreciated. Every time one of our sons fall there are literally millions of us currently in uniform, retired from service and who have served in our nations past wars who do not stop, pause, and mourn the sacrifice of our brothers in arms.

My Number One Son..
To some of you Jaime, SSG Newman he was a Soldier
To some of you Jaime was a friend
To me he was a Soldier, a Friend, a Brother, a Father, but most importantly Jaime was my son, my first born (Jaime number 1).
My Dearest Son
It is with great sadness that I write these words to you; especially knowing you would no longer be a car drive away, a plane flight away or a phone call away. Believe it or not I know why you are not here with us any longer, and it is as simple as “YOU WERE JUST TOO GREAT TO BE HERE”.
If you could talk to me now I’m almost sure you would say to me, Mom do not cry, do not be sad. I’m not gone, I am here in sprit. God called me away to be a soldier for him. Mom; I will be okay. Beside you, my children and my siblings, being a Soldier was my first love. Mom I left this world doing something I loved doing. I love you.
Jaime never complained; all the months and tours he served down range, you have never complained and you have never asked why “me”. Jaime I love you; you were the highest quality a human being and a Soldier could have been. I am extremely appreciative of the 27 years I had you, I appreciate the person of substance you were. I am appreciative of the conversations we had; I am appreciative of all the arguments and fights you had with your siblings, and all the words of wisdom you shared with them.
Son thank you so much for being you and what you brought to the table as a person good and bad, your imperfections were other people’s perfection; you were really a genuinely great person in all senses of the word. You have never met a stranger; you have shared with, fed and sheltered anyone who needed your help. Jaime my son, you were taken away too soon. I am saddened to my core of your passing; all thought I know you died doing what you loved; I am certain I will grieve for the rest of my life; I pray for healing to my soul.
You are now one of God’s Soldiers. Rest in peace my handsome prince, My Son My Soldier.
Love you so, so much
Mom
