Richard L. Phelps Sr.

Richard Louis Phelps Sr., 77, of Mechanicsville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Samuel and Catherine Staley Phelps. He was a past member of Immanuel Baptist Church, loved woodworking, especially making toys for his grandchildren, all types of fishing, especially salt water fishing, was a member of Hopewell Moose Lodge # 1472 and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Phelps is survived by his sons, Richard L. Phelps Jr. and wife, Malinda, James B. Phelps, Steve A. Bleistein and wife, Sherry, Michael W. Bleistein and wife, Mary Ann; grandchildren, Emily Phelps, Melissa Bolton and husband, Ian, Stephanie Kenney and husband, Criss, Corey, Cole and Michaela Bleistein; great-grandchildren, Parker and Alyssa Bolton, Ian Bolton Jr., Catie Marston-Kenney; and special caregiver and mother of his sons, Mildred Irby.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31 at the Petersburg chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, with the Rev. Joseph Elmore officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park.
