Albert Skorupa Obituary

SKORUPA, ALBERT 93, of Oaklawn Ave., passed away January 23, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Marie Skorupa. Born in Passaic, NJ, a son of the late John and Agnes (Tomczyk) Skorupa, he was the former owner of Almars Trucking and Rhode Island Fast Freight. Al was a WWII US Army veteran who was a member of Company C, 531st Engineer Shore Regiment, 1st Engineer Special Brigade. On June 6, 1944, D-Day, Company C of the 531st landed in the first wave at Utah Beach. For the 60th anniversary of D-Day, Al was one of one hundred American veterans, chosen by the French government to represent all of the veterans who participated in the liberation of France, to receive France's highest and most prestigious award, the Legion d'honneur. Among his numerous Masonic affiliations, he was a member of Harmony Lodge No. 9 F&AM, Cranston and a past potentate of the Rhode Island Shriners. He belonged to the 531st Engineer Shore Regiment Association; the Transportation Club of RI; the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity and Providence Lodge No. 14, B.P.O. Elks. Besides his wife he is survived by his son Robert of Boston, MA; his daughter Dorothy Simanek of CA; and his sister Helen Jachym of Pawtucket. After cremation, interment with military honors was held in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Mrs. Skorupa and Robert,
Ever so sorry for your loss. I worked with Al and Robert in the 80s and we all looked forward to your visits to the Firm for many laughs, caring insight and the best of food you would prepare! I wish I could hug you both for your pain.
