Mr Turner was my favorite teacher at high school. When people say that a teacher can have a huge, lifelong impact on students, they're talking about teachers like Mr Turner. I'm lucky to have been his student and so sorry that he's died.

Whenever someone complained about the timing of a test of quiz, Mr. Turner would say, "Smile! Tomorrow will be worse!" I now use that today with my students, attributing it to Mr. Turner every time. He was a good man, and I will look out for some Black Crow candy in his honor.

So sorry for your loss. I, and my three older brothers, had Mr. Turner for Latin class - a total of 16 years with the O'Neill boys. He was certainly one of the best and funniest teachers I ever had and he actually initiated my interest in the humanities. I also remember going to Greece and Rome with Mr. Turner for a Latin Club trip - a great experience I'll never forget. Thank you, Mr. Turner, you touched many lives.

I had Mr. Turner for French my freshman year at Classical. I was by no means the best French student but Mr. Turner put up with me because of our shared love for the Red Sox. Some of my favorite memories of high school were listening to him talk about baseball.
As a graduation present, he gave me a folder full of photos and clippings from sports sections dating back to the late '70s. Tonight I'm going to look through that folder again and think of him.
Thanks for everything, Mr. T. I'll miss you.

Dear Patty,
I was so sad to hear of Peter's passing. What a great guy and what ba wonderful influence on a generation of students. I remember going to a parent's night at Classical and hearing him utter the phrase "passive paraphrasic." As someone who had studied Latin 25 years before, it gave me the chills. He was a gentleman and a scholar and I never thought about him except with a smile.
The best to you from Lis and I,
Larry O'Brien

Farewell to the Latin Legend. His kindness and competence were an inspiration. Not to mention his dry wit.

Mr. Turner was my Latin teacher at Classical for 3 years. I never expected to enjoy the class, but I did and still find myself 20 years later realizing how much I learned in that class. Thank you, Mr. Turner and rest in peace. - Kim Bright, Indian Land, SC
