Rocco Quattrocchi

QUATTROCCHI, ROCCO A. 88, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 10, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Dolores (DeRosa) Quattrocchi and the loving father of the late John J.M. Quattrocchi. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Vincenza (DiGennaro) Quattrocchi. Rocco is a graduate of Classical High School, the University of Rhode Island, and attended the University of Bologna Medical School. Rocco served in the army during WWII, stationed in Iceland. He was a successful businessman owning and operating the family business, Douglas Oil Company, for over 62 years until his retirement in 2013. Rocco was a former member of the General Assembly, serving as a State Representative from the 7th district in Providence from 1969 to 1970, and State Senator from the 4th district from 1971 to 1984. Rocco chaired numerous committees and served as a Deputy Majority Leader from 1976 to 1980, Senate Majority Leader from 1980 to 1983 and was Democratic State Chairman from 1978 to 1983. Rocco loved serving his constituency helping people, businesses, and organizations during his political tenure. Some of Rocco's legislative accomplishments include the creation of the Narragansett Bay Commission, University status and national recognition for both Johnson and Wales University and New England Technical Institute, passage of the Interstate Banking and Licensing Laws enabling RI corporate banks to expand throughout the country, Sunday retail store sale (Blue Law), and "right turn on red". But none was more heartfelt or personal then the passing of the Early Intervention Legislation that addressed developmentally disabled children. Rocco received many distinguished awards for his service as a community leader including Kiwanis Foundation of Roger Williams, DaVinci Center, United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, John E. Forgarty Center, Italian American Club and Italian American Heritage Society. Rocco was an avid golfer and belonged to Metacomet Country Club, the Longboat Key Country Club and was an International Member of the Royal St. Andrew's Golf Club in Scotland. Rocco was very kind, generous and loving, he supported numerous charitable organizations, was a communicate of St. Ann Church and supporter of St. Anthony's Church. His time spent with his family, in both Rhode Island and Longboat Key, Florida has left lasting and treasured memories. He is survived by his loving children Joseph A. Quattrocchi and his wife Barbara of Greenville, and Cynthia A. Quattrocchi of Providence. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Charles Ruggerio and his wife Jillian, Rocco Quattrocchi and his wife Alessandra, Joseph Quattrocchi and his wife Krista, and Amanda Fallon and her husband William and three cherished great grandchildren, Ava Ruggerio, Mia Ruggerio and Cristiano Quattrocchi. He was the devoted brother of Josephine DeAngelis, and the late Ali, John Jr., Elizabeth Bucci, Domenica Santagata, Martha Santoro and Anna Smaldone. Visiting hours will be held on Monday 5-8 pm in the A.A. MARIANI & SON Funeral Home, 200 Hawkins Street, Providence. His funeral will begin on Tuesday at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Ann Church, 280 Hawkins Street, Providence. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
