Mr. McCarthy was literally "a man about town" alway a kind word, a pleasant smile and congenial wave as he peddled the streets of Bristol. If you didn't know him by name, you knew him by reputation . He will be missed. Eternal Rest!

Uncle Bill always made me smile...he taught me how to eat my first lobster and how wonderful it is to be in Bristol on the 4th of July. I am so glad that my family spent time with him this summer. He will always have a tender place in my heart and memories. My love and prayers are with you, Aunt Elizabeth, and the family. May God hold all of you safely in His hands.

My sincere sympathies to the McCarthy family. Growing up in the neighborhood the McCarthy home was always such a welcoming place. Marian, Elizabeth and Elaine were treasured childhood friends. My sympathies for your loss.

My heartfelt sympathies to the McCarthy family and Agnes in particular. I did not grow up in this area but keep hearing stories from EVERYONE in East Bay about Bill and his swimming, and his biking, and his humor, and his generosity to children and adults alike, and his obvious love and joyful service of community. His pride in his family and spark of life was obvious, even to someone who only knew him this last decade. I hope in time the many many many joyful memories will replace the grief of today. We are truly saddened by Mr. McCarthy's death. Mr. McCarthy was an amazing person. He was always so kind and considerate and we always welcomed seeing him at every opportunity.

To the McCarthy family, I'm so sorry for your loss. I was very fortunate to have had Bill as a friend, neighbor, Bristol tour guide and historian. He made my too-short residence in Bristol one of the most cherished periods in my life. Special memories of dancing with him at one of the many concerts before Independence Day in front of the Colt School and how he hooked me up with 2 other team members from Senior Olympics for sprint Triathlon relays at Barrington beach. He was quite a guy and will be missed.

To all Mr. McCarthy's family, it was always a pleasure to talk with Mr. McCarthy abouth the old days he knew my Father Donald and my Uncle Tom Van Voast very well and always told me stories about how they grew up and worked. He will be truely missed by this community.

Our deepest condolences to the McCarthy family.My mother (Marjorie Magee Burnham) and he graduated in 1936 from Colt. My dad (Herbert) used to swim at the YMCA with him. My husband and I enjoyed chatting with Mr. McCarthy as he rode his bicycle around town. He was a terrific person who knew a great deal of Bristol history. He will be missed.

Your father will be greatly missed. The Town of Bristol has lost a well traveled, bicycle riding social advocate for our town. His bay swims and competitions at Brown were so much fun to hear about. I enjoyed all the time I had with him.
