As a friend of Mia Neuse, I met Richard for the first time over 20 years ago at the Neuse family home in Rhode Island. I recall the beautiful garden that he enjoyed working in, his keen dry wit and his extensive knowledge on a wide variety of topics. I recall conversing about his profession, and the game of life. He was full of insight and had few illusions about the world, yet found considerable joy in what he did. This joy of life is one of the things that I know he has passed on to his children. What a beautiful gift.
