Carl Pearson Obituary

PEARSON, CARL ALFRED 102, of Orleans, MA, passed away at The Terraces Orleans on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the age of 102. He was born in Watertown, MA on May 10, 1914, and grew up in Belmont, MA. He graduated from MIT in 1936 with a BS degree and an MS degree in Electrical Engineering two years later. In 1940, he earned his NY State Professional Engineers License. In 1940, he married Harriet Childs of Waltham, MA and they were married for 67 years. Harriet predeceased Carl in August 2007. They lived in Tennessee and Philadelphia during WWII, where Carl was a Navy officer. He worked on ammunition logistics and building submarines. After the war, they moved to Westfield, NJ, later with a transfer to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1966, and their final retirement move to East Greenwich, RI, in 1976. Carl worked for Procter & Gamble for 38 years. In retirement he pursued his love of learning and took classes from the University of Rhode Island where, in 1985, he earned a Master's Degree in Geology. Later he continued to take classes at URI until he was 90 and then took online classes in a variety of topics. Carl was the first in his immediate family to get a home computer! Then at the age of 98 he got an iPad, which he used daily! Carl is survived by his sister, Ruth Dahlin of Garden Grove, CA and his three children Lynn Nelson (Kingsley) of East Orleans, MA; Leslie Pearson of Orleans, MA; and Lloyd Pearson (Geri) of Higganum, CT. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the entire staff of The Terraces Orleans for their outstanding and compassionate care over the past four years. Burial services will be private. Donations may be given in Carl's name to the American Heart Association (www.donatenow.heart.org) or the charity of your choice. For online condolences, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com.

Not sure what to say?

October 11, 2016

I only met Carl once, when my son, Isaiah, introduced us. Isaiah met Carl when he was 14 years old and started volunteering at The Terraces Orleans. It was a beautiful thing to watch a young man forge a wonderful friendship with a then very young 98 year old. As Isaiah was reflecting on his resume at college and saw competitive cribbage player on his skill set under volunteer work, he remembered his friend, Carl, and it broke his heart that he never got a chance to say a last goodbye. Thank you, Carl, for teaching Isaiah life lessons and sports statistics during the many Sunday afternoons together. I know Isaiah will never forget you.

A life well lived give credit to our creator who made us in his image Genesis 1:27. It is no wonder that we thirst for life to realize or dreams and to go on adventures. Soon, our creator will provide an environmental in which no longer cry from the pain of death. My sincere hope for the family.
