Kate Rodgers Obituary

Kate Holway Rodgers Kate Holway "Holly" Rodgers, 68, of Chambersburg, passed away April 18, 2015. Born May 27, 1946, in Northampton, MA, she was a daughter of the late Doris Redman Asquith and Professor Dean Asquith. Holly lived her first two years in Amherst, MA, then moved to Biglerville, PA. She graduated from Biglerville High School as Co-Valedictorian in 1964. Holly graduated with honors, earning a BA in Biology from Gettysburg College in 1968. While at Gettysburg College, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Beta Beta (National Biology Sorority). She earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University in 1971. She taught kindergarten and first grade in various schools for five years. She was also a private tutor for 10 years. Holly was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and The Chambersburg AAUW. She was a former member of Hershey Jr. Woman's Club, Hershey Community Chorus, Trinity Lutheran Church Choir in Hershey, and was Treasurer of the LCW in Hershey. Holly enjoyed reading, movies, music, dogs, collecting dolls and Boyd's Bears, and playing the flute and piano. Surviving are her husband, James A. Rodgers, whom she married March 29, 1969; son, Nathan M. Rodgers and wife Sonia; brother, Dr. Peter D. Asquith; several nieces and nephews; and her poodle, Destiny Rose Rodgers, who will miss her greatly. A memorial service will be held 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26 W. Commerce St., Chambersburg, PA 17201. The Rev. Dr. Neil Hively and the Rev. Tara Magoon will be officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Inc.
