Ronald Clopper Obituary

Ronald "Ron" Clopper
June 4, 1939 - May 30, 2016
Chambersburg, PA
Ronald "Ron" Clopper, age 76, of Chambersburg, PA, passed from this life to his heavenly father, who was awaiting him with open arms on Monday, May 30, 2016, at his home with his family by his side. Born June 4, 1939, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Walter and Florence Pague Clopper.
A 1959 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Ron went on to work at the former Valley Baking Company for 3 years and then at the former Chambersburg Engineering Company as a machine operator for 38 years, retiring in 2001. Mr. Clopper was a life member of Newburg and Chambersburg First Church of God, where he was active in the choir and the men's choir. He enjoyed playing canasta with family and friends, going bowling, hunting small game, taking trips with family and friends, and Go Club. After his retirement, he also enjoyed working outside in the neighborhood, mowing grass, mulching, trimming shrubbery, and removing snow with his wife. Thoughtful in nature, Ron loved to help other people, spend time with his family and friends, and enjoy a good meal, dining out.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Gail E. Calvert Clopper, whom he married on May 1, 1960; two children, Lorie E. Fortney (husband William) of South Mountain, PA and Keith Clopper (wife Crystal) of Chambersburg, PA; six grandchildren, Matthew (wife Kelly), Wayne (wife Justina), and Andrew (wife Jenelle) Fortney, Grace (husband Luke) Covalt, and Colton and Jeremy Clopper; six great-grandchildren, Dominik Adams and Lacy, Grady, Isaac, Jacob, and Noah Fortney; and siblings, Eugene, Bernard, and Terry Clopper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Theda Bell Mickey and Hillard Clopper.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 2 PM at the Chambersburg First Church of God, 2230 Grand Point Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Lawrence Metzler and Pastor Don Drury will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. If desired, memorial donations can be made in his name to the above church and address. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Lee and staff at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and Dr. Robinson and staff at Summit Cancer and Hematology Services, and to the Lutheran services and hospice staff. Remember the Good days by Diana Stoner

Remember the good days and not the bad,
Remember the happy times and not the sad,
Recall, with a smile, the laughs, not the tears;
Rejoice in your heart, God allowed you those years.

Weep not for things that weren't meant to be;
Shed not those tears in self-sympathy;
God, in His wisdom, knows all and plans
What He see best, leave all in His hands.

Be not downhearted nor have discontent,
Instead, be ye grateful, for years that were spent
Here on this earth, a stopping place, only
On our journey to a land where none will be lonely.

Do not fall backward, but go forward each day,
Making the best and the most of life's stay;
Be happy and peaceful and know in your heart
That one day you'll meet him and nevermore part.

So sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Gail.
