Evallyn Wolf Obituary

BELLE FOURCHE - Evallyn F. Wolf, 90, Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Belle Fourche Health Care Center.

Evallyn Frances Charlton was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Sioux Falls. She was the daughter of Edwin and Nellie Ruth (Anderson) Charlton. Evallyn grew up in Sioux Falls and Lemmon. In 1939 she moved to Belle Fourche with her best friend. There she met her first husband, Lawrence Reuben "Bennie" Baumann.

They were married on Dec. 19, 1939, in Sundance Wyo. To this union, three daughters were born, JoAnn, Louise, and Bonnie. Following their wedding, they lived in Belle Fourche where Evallyn worked at the New York Ladies Apparel Store. In 1952 they moved to Sturgis where she worked for an optometrist and a phone company. In 1958, Bennie died tragically in a car accident, and the following year, Evallyn moved to Belle Fourche. There she worked at the First National Bank (Wells Fargo) for 25 years, retiring in 1985.

On August 6, 1961, Evallyn was united in marriage to A.T. Wolf Jr. at the St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche. A.T. died in 2000.

Despite many hardships that came her way, Evallyn had a good life that was full of wonderful moments. Evallyn loved the game of baseball, and she was a devoted fan of the Colorado Rockies. She even kept statistics of the players at one time. She enjoyed knitting, making dolls and afghans, writing stories and poetry, and reading. She also enjoyed going for drives, and just recently enjoyed a month's stay in Arizona with her daughters. For many years she hosted an annual Fourth of July party in her yard, and she enjoyed counting how many people would arrive each year. She loved her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by them all.

Evallyn is survived by her daughters, Louise Chaffee, Sturgis, and Bonnie Harrison, Rapid City; six grandchildren, D'Anna (Ron) Catterson, Debra Ferguson, Kim (Dan) Heisinger, Kirk Chaffee, Kerry (Shaun) Skinner, Sandra (David) Norris; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Velma) Christianson, Minnesota; son-in-law, Don Barnett, Denver; brothers-in-law, John (Nadine) Wolf, and Bernard Wolf, both of Hulett, Wyo.; several nieces and nephews, and other members of the Wolf family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, JoAnn Barnett; son-in-law, Jerry Chaffee; grandson, Gregory Harrison; and brothers, Edwin Charlton Jr. and Eugene Christianson.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche, with the Rev. Jeff Otterman officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Hulett Cemetery in Hulett, Wyo.

Memorials are preferred to the St. James Lutheran Church and the Greater Hulett Community Center.
