James Grubb Obituary

LEAD - James E. "Jim" Grubb, 50, Lead, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Jim was born Jan. 26, 1961, to Harold and Catherine (Kaufman) Grubb at McLeansboro, Ill. He graduated from McLeansboro High School in 1979, and went to college at Rend Lake Community College. He married Susan Barnett on August 6, 1991 at Mount Vernon, Ill. Together they moved their family to Nebraska and then on to South Dakota where they have made their home for the last 10 years.

Jim loved baseball, camping, jeeping, fishing, cooking and barbequing. He especially enjoyed teaching his kids and grandkids to play baseball and fish. The St. Louis Cardinals always held a special place in his heart since listening to the games with his grandmother on a transistor radio.

Jim was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

He worked for Wal-Mart since 1996, most recently as an assistant manager at the Rapid City store.

Jim is survived by his wife, Suzy of Lead; a son, Jesse (Kari) Ripley of Kearney, Neb.; two daughters, Cameron (Michael) Lefler and Shanna Mosier, both of Rapid City; eight grandchildren, Jaidin, Bradon, Annika, Trey, Ember, Kadyn, Edyn and Jozie; his mother, Catherine Grubb of McLeansboro; three brothers, Bill Mezo, Bob Mezo and Karl Mezo; and a sister, Caroline Juengling.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Visitation will be two hours before services.

Please come to the service in blue jeans in memory of Jim.

A reception will follow at the Spearfish VFW, 3102 E. Fairgrounds Loop.

Jim was an exemplary model of - not just a human being, but of an Asst.Mgr. He always had the time to take care of ANY problem that was presented him - even if it wasn't in his area of concern. Jim was a REAL person -friendly, caring, intuitive and GENUINE. He was never my supervisor directly - but he always 'came to the rescue' when no one else would. I'm sure his place in the store will be sorely lacking...And SO much more by his loved ones. It was my pleasure and privilege to have known this man. May God bless you and keep you during this time.
