Amazing. I was just thinking of Will the other day. I was driving home from Spearfish. I always remember him when I drive past the Lantis place. He was one of the really great cowboys and always had a friendly word and Hello for everyone he met. He and Mary Ellen were two of the nicest people I've ever met.

God blessed this earth the day he gave us Will and He let Will enter all our lives as only Will could. There are not people that we meet in life as wondeful and deep yet funny and loving and so complete as Will.
I'm guessing God missed him and is prbobaly having Will help HIM with HIS riding and shooting.

Mary Ellen and Family
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time of need. Norm & I were shocked to learn of Will's tragic death. We regret that we were unable to attend the funeral because of Norm's travel schedule.
I have many great childhood memories of our family gatherings on the farm in Iowa and also the picnics at Stone Park in Sioux City.
We always enjoyed seeing both of you when you came to Arizona.
May you have Peace knowing that Will was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Dear Mary Ellen and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I was Blessed to have met a man such as Will, as were many other people.
I was fortunate to have met him at a CMSA show in Tunica, Ms., this past April. He had a gift of making you feel like you were his "best" friend. He loved his family and his friends and he enjoyed and loved life. The number of lives he has touched may never be known. A brief encounter with Will became a bold and vivid memory
that would last forever.
I was aware of the influence he had with his friends and even aquaintances. He was the E.F.Hutton of CMSA - when he spoke - everybody listened.
Having lost my own Husband three and a half years ago - I do understand some of your feelings. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Will was an inspiration to so many, he will be sorely missed.
May God Grant You and Your Family
Peace, and Serenity during this difficult time!

Dear Mary Ellen & family,
Randy & I (and family) want to give you our deepest regrets with the passing of Will.
Our family was so touched by our trip to your home 2 years ago. Our family still talks about how much fun it was to ride with Will across the 22 Ranch! - to see the last "open range" and the many other unforgettable moments we shared. Our family just loved hearing all the stories Will had to tell - and your cookies were such a treat for our venture across the plains.
I know our time with Will was but a brief moment - but the stories our kids will tell - endless! Please know you and family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Wishing peace and joy from the memories. Take care.

Mary Ellen,
I am so upset by your loss as my friendship with Will was one that meant very much to me. I know that he will be missed by all those who he touched as I do now. We rode together, we drank together and talked of many things,Tthe loves of our lives and dow dear they are to us. There is know way that I can convey that his loss will mean to me. There is a Greek myth that says if you speak a man's name each day he does not die but lives on in the memory of those who knew him. I will speak his name each day for the rest of my life because I can not bear his absence in this world. With fond memory and a sadden heart.

Mary Ellen and Family, I pray that Gods comfort and peace will carry you all through this time of great loss. In times like these we all realize the need for our loving God and old friends! I am so sorry for the time not spent.
I have so many great memories of conversations, dinners, different business dealings, Health Care Conventions and just the time we spent together.
One time we played racket ball in Kearney. I was just a beginner. Will would spot me 19 points, play left handed and he still won six games in a row. I know in some way he was taking advantage of me. He was very good and he made it a lot of fun.
When we were in Denver on a business trip we where taking off from the airport. Will took off before the tower released him. We meet a 727. Needless to say I will never forget that one. What an adventure!
They say that behind every great man is a better woman. Mary Ellen you were always by his side being his strength and support. God Bless you!
I pray the grace of God directs and helps you through this time.

Mary Ellen and Family,
I can not express the grief I feel in my heart for you and your family. I had worked with you and Will for just a short time at PVCC, however, in that time, I was enlightened by Will's robust ethics and kind heart. I, like others thought Will would be here longer than he was. I am sure that he is giving them heck in his new role in Heaven. Will has always been a leader, and as he begins this new journey, I know that he will prepare a path for us all to follow . My prayers are with you all during this time.

I got to meet Will at a shoot in Minnesota, after a short weekend, it felt like we had known each other much longer than just a few days. He sang his John Denver songs around the campfire and had such a huge smile after riding each course at the shoot. He so much enjoyed it all. Got to ride with him at Tunica Mississippi where he went to outlandish means to make the CMSA scholarship program work.
Am so thankfull I got to know him and enjoy some great times with him.

My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Will at the 7down regional shoot. I just got done unhooking my trailer when this guy comes up and says last year we parked the trailers the other direction and would I mind moving it. I looked at him funny and he said My name is Will Lantis and you don't have to move it right away, just soon. Then he drove off. That weekend we ended up meeting a great man that will be missed. Mary Ellen and Family. I knew "of" Will for several years now, but really got to know the man over this summer at Nationals and the SD shoots. I can say without hesitation I have never met a finer individual. He heard I wanted to work a branding some day and without hesitation invited me up to this springs branding. We also joked about me being able to compete against him once I got my Civil War outfit together. I told him I was going to one up him by a quarter star. I posted Will's obituary on my web site. With these words: "For all who knew Will and those who never had the honor of meeting him. Saying this man was bigger then life its self is an understatement. Everyone he touched is better for have knowing him. I'm sure God has a special horse waiting for Will to ride into eternity." Those words came for the heart, one that will always have a special place for Will. I'm thankful for the time I had knowing him. God Bless you and your family.

Will Lantis had a strong and immediate impact on every person he met. My family and I are no exception. ShareAll and I have made several memorable trips to SD for mounted shooting events where we had the privilege of spending a few days on the ranch in Bell Fouche, running around in his pickup, trailriding the Black Hills and the hospitality of his home.
Always open, honest, sharing and straight forward, Will was one of the finest people we've had the opportunity to meet in our travels. Our hearts and prayers go our to his family, friends and everyone who will miss this great man.

On behalf of all of the New Mexico Territory Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association members we send our prayers and sincerest condolences. I personally will never forget how Will touched the newest NM shooters at our first big shoot in AZ, telling us it was a good run or good job when we really knew how it actually looked. Dear Mary Ellen and Family;
Our hearts grieve along with yours!
From the first time we met you and Will at Seven Down Arena, we have been welcomed and treated as if we too were family.
Will has been a true and honest friend as well as a generous host.
We will never forget the day at Tunica when he rode out into the arena dressed in ladies chothing, to raise money for the CMSA Scholarship Fund.
As we rode out this morning to check cattle around the ranch we spoke of Will.
Our thoughts were that he was meeting old favorite cowboys, feeling young again on a spirited horse, and driving cattle to greener pastures.
Will did not lose the most important race in his life, as he is waiting for the rest of us to catch him.
May these thoughts and our prayers give you comfort.

I just watched the "THANK-YOU --WILL LANTIS" DVD VIDEO again last night. CMSA members and their guests "starred" in it at the wonderful chuchwagon dinner hosted by the 7 DOWN arena. It was wonderful to hear so many nice things about such a wonderful man and his family and friends. It really crystalized the feelings of so many people for their dear friend. Will did get to enjoy it because I sent it to him about a week after the shoot and I received a thank you from Mary Ellen. ( If anyone would like a free copy of it just let me know on my email.)

Recent memories of Will....
Will and I spent the better part of July 20,2006 in his pickup roaming around his stomping grounds of the ranch, Belle Fourche, St. Onge, and the Spearfish area. We shot the WY State Shoot the 21st and 22nd of July. I was able to hear Will play his guitar and sing in the 100 degree Wyoming heat before we shot that evening. As we said our cowboy goodbyes on Sat. night, it would be a short period of time until we both arrived at yet another arena in Ft. Robinson, NE with our horses and pistols for another fun-filled two day shoot. And Mary Ellen, what a great breakfast we had the morning of July 30, 2006. I am grateful for that morning as Will passed on his wisdom to Cody about the rodeo life he lived. But he also impressed upon him to not only pursue his rodeo dreams but to get an education. Thank you, Will

I am so sorry for your loss. What a nice man Will was! The first time I met him was at the ranch, he was so hospitable, and had a real great sense of humor! After only knowing him a couple of hours We picked on each other like old friends! Dear Mary Ellen and Family,
We were saddened by the news about Will. He will be missed by all that knew him. You could always count on his quick wit and his jovial spirit. Our family events will never be the same without him. One of my favorite memories was at Christmas time, how we would go back and forth about how he was going to give Kent and I a lesson on the racquet ball court. We never got a chance to see how that would go, but I know now that he would probably have given us a whooping. Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of the family. Love Mike and Deb.

Mary Ellen and the Lantis Family,
Our deepest sympathy to you all.
We are saddened by the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, cowboy, outdoorsman, horseman, cattleman, aviator, politician, businessman, and friend.
A few years back our family was blessed with the priviledge of getting to know Will, Mary Ellen, Travis, Amy, and children. Having many similar interests, our friendship grew fast in a very short period of time. Will will be missed by our family and will be remembered by this verse:

May God comfort you and give you peace during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Words cannot begin to express the loss that we feel. We have lost a good friend and the world has lost a great man; a man who could make you feel special just by being near you. Our thoughts and prayers will be with the family and with all who knew and loved Will.

I was stunned to read of Will's passing. As a past employee of Valle Vista Manor, I knew Will as a kind and vibrant man. I was impressed that with all of his employees, he was able to pick out those he knew and remember most of our names. May God in Heaven smile on his family now in their time of dispare.

Mary Ellen and Family,
We cannot find the words to express our grief and sympathy for your loss. Debbie and I so loved Will we have had hours of discussion and crying since Sunday night in memory of Will. It is amazing to think of all of the lives that this one man has affected. He has provided for thousands of residents in our homes, thousands of employees, many strangers (how many people have ended up employees of Lantis after meeting Will for a drink or meal!), not to mention the many family members that Will has provided for. Will had a good heart and a true gusto for life! He was always fun to be around and boy could he tell a story, sometimes more than once! I told Leah that with his bravado and bigger than life personality I just assumed that he wouldn't ever die. God must have a different plan for Will and I am sure he is causing quite a ruckus at the Pearly Gates. He is probably having some interesting discussions with the likes of Lewis and Clark or some of his other heroes! The Home Office will never be the same. All our love and prayers.

Dear Lantis Family, Our sympathy is with you during this difficult time. In the wake of such loss we're haunted by things we don't understand, yet sometimes the solace we seek does not come from answers, but a connection to everlasting love. May that love hold you close and bring you peace. We at WEL-life in Elk Point feel honored to have worked for Will, and have learned much from his enthusiasm and dedication to making the world a better place for the elderly. He will truly be missed by many. We are praying for your peace and comfort.

Our sympathys to the Lantis family. We only got to shoot with Will at one shoot (Bison Meadows) in Minnesota , but Will made you feel like you had been friends a long time. His genuine personality and friendlyness made him such a likeable cowboy, we had looked forward to visiting with him again the next time we met up and still do. Steve n Janice Moe MMSA.

Mary Ellen, Travis and family,
Please except my deepest sympathies. Will welcomed Brennen and I like we were family when we came to Spearfish. His good will towards others was an inspiration to many. I will remember his hospitality always. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
