Robert Fox Obituary

BELLE FOURCHE -Robert William Fox, 82, Belle Fourche, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Fort Meade Veterans Hospital.

Robert was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Deadwood to Robert C. and Myrtle (McIntire) Fox. He grew up in Fruitdale, attended Fruitdale Elementary and graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1946.

Bob married Helen Davis on Oct. 7, 1950, and they made their home in Fruitdale, working in the family bee business until retiring to Belle Fourche. Winter employment included bentonite mining, uranium exploration, meat cutting, truck driving and working at the beet plant.

Bob received a medical discharge from the U.S. Army in 1951.

He was a member of the Soil Conservation Board, Ducks Unlimited Board, the Lions Club and the Belle Fourche Country Club.

Bob was most at home in the outdoors, hunting and fishing, playing golf, pool and darts. He had harvested every species of big game in South Dakota, plus a Kodiak bear in Alaska. The black bear kill occurred when it nosed up to the window of their cabin.

He is survived by his three sons, William Robert (Teresa) Fox, Whitewood, Timothy Parker (Wanda) Fox, Salt Lake City, and Christopher Jon (Krinda) Fox, Fruitdale; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Fox; and sisters, Doreen Martindale and Romerta Cook.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Kline Funeral Chapel in Belle Fourche.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, at United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Gail Arnold officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

The family has established a memorial to the Butte County 4-H Shooting Sports.
