Verne Barrett Obituary

RAPID CITY - Verne W. Barrett, 91, Rapid City, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Barrett, Rapid City; a son, David Barrett, Keokuk, Iowa; a daughter, Anita Winter, Rapid City; three stepsons, Robert Johnson, Picaune, Miss., and Gregory Johnson and David Johnson, both of Rapid City; three stepdaughters, Mary Johnson, Hill City, Carol Linder, Rapid City and Barbara Degley, Milwaukee, Wis.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 21 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sibyl Vernon, Medford, Ore.

Memorial visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, at Faith Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jeff Rohr officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard, will follow at 1 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church.
