William Pinkerton Obituary

LEAD - William Wallace "Bill" Pinkerton, 81, Lead, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

Bill was born June 15, 1929, at Hill City to Ross W. and Josephine T. (Wichlacz) Pinkerton. He graduated from Custer High School in 1947. Bill entered the U.S. Army in 1951 and was honorably discharged.

Bill married Donna Jean King from Rochford in 1951. To this union were born six wonderful children, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, all of whom were very special to him and brought him much joy.

He worked sawmilling with his father, as well as for Homestake Mine, the U.S. Forest Service, Job Corps, and was Co-owner of King's Grocery in Lead. He enjoyed all the friends and customers while in business and his claim to fame was being "the oldest carry out (delivery) boy in town." After 36 years in the grocery business, he retired in 2000. Bill and Donna enjoyed their 10 years of retirement.

The family is grateful for the wonderful care he received while at the VA on E Ward.

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Donna, Lead; two sons, Wesley (Chandra) Pinkerton, Gillette, Wyo., and Dale (LouAnn) Pinkerton, Sturgis; three daughters, Catherine Andrews, Michigan, Deanna (Mike) Makousky, Gillette, and Fawn (Jeff) Hadlock, Gillette; 14 grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, Nathan, Mathew, Mindie, Keef, Keelia, Roxanne and Crystal, Jewel, Joseph, Maggie, Olivia, and Max; and three great-grandchildren, Macie, Maddie and Collin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; three sisters; a son, Daniel Pinkerton; and son-in-law, Robert K. Andrews.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services Friday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Calvin Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.

Donna, Wes and Family - I am sorry for your loss and pray you can take comfort in knowing what a wonderful father/grandfather you were blessed with. Bill was such a great guy and like many others, I always enjoyed visiting with him when I was in King's Grocery. He took time to 'care' about everyone who shopped there. He had the face and mannerisms that showed everyone he was a happy and blessed man. Thoughts and prayers to all Bill's family.
