Delores Lund Obituary
SIOUX FALLS | Delores Adeline Ahrendt Lund was born on May 16, 1923, to Louis H. Ahrendt and Ida Paulina (Myron) Ahrendt in Norway township, south of Meckling, S.D. She attended grade school in Norway district #3, and graduated from Meckling High School in 1941.
She married John Peter Lund on July 3, 1941. John had just graduated from welding school and was offered a job in Henry Kaiser Shipbuilding Co. in Richmond, CA. They moved there in January of 1942. In 1943, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific Theatre during WWII. Delores worked in a government accounting office in Richmond during the war and later in an accounting office in Oakland.
They moved to Rapid City, SD in 1947, where they lived for 40 years. She did some accounting work in Rapid City, but her main interest was in raising her family and her volunteer church work. She taught Sunday School for many years, was chairman of the wedding reception committee, worked in altar guild and enjoyed it all.
As their daughters married and their family grew with grandchildren, she cherished all the time spent with them as they visited and camped and fished. John and Delores traveled for a few years after they retired-mostly in the eastern United States, absorbing all of the history there.
Preceding her in death was her husband, John Peter Lund, parents, one brother, Ludwig, and four sisters, Lucille Miller, Lela Bird, Caroline Ahrendt and Mamie D'Lamatter.
She is survived by her daughters, Tanya (Fred) Rist of Aberdeen, SD, Sonya (Bill) Beck of Preston, MN; her grandsons, Karl Rist, John (Melissa) Rist, Christopher (Angie) Beck, Michael (Kim) Beck; and four great-grandchildren, Sela and Erick Rist and Todd and Matthew Beck; and former daughter-in-law, Anjanette Bandel.
Memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Church.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 12, at Peace Lutheran Church. Inurnment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis next summer in 2013.
Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
