Reverend Marie Delores Powell Reed entered earthly life on September 13, 1933, and entered eternal life on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
She bravely battled Alzheimer's disease since 2006 and has now overcome all Earthly bonds.
A service to celebrate her life will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 4, at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Marie graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1951 and went on to achieve an accomplished academic and professional career.
She graduated from the University of PA with Bachelor's degrees in music and German, completed her graduate work at Temple University, where she received a Master's degree in Education. In 1965, she was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship for study at Goethe Institute in Trier, Germany.
Marie was a gifted teacher and taught German and English at Conestoga Senior High School, PA, from 1955 to 1966.
In 1987, Marie graduated from Yale Divinity School, where she received the excellence in preaching award.
She fully devoted her life to her Savior, Jesus Christ, and began her pastoral calling as the Assistant to the Senior Pastor of The First Congregational Church in Greenwich, CT. Marie was ordained and served as Associate Minister of Visitation at Noroton Presbyterian Church, in Darien, CT, her home church.
In 1990, she and her husband, Richard W. Reed, moved to NC, where she continued her ministry as Pastor of the Yanceyville Presbyterian Church, from which, after ten years, she retired in 2001.
Parishioners who were homebound or hospitalized will remember the many times Marie shared company with them.
She was a fun-loving, hands-on mother to Rob and treasured the time they spent together after his school day.
Her partner, best friend, and supporter for the past 49 years has been her loving husband, Richard, whom she met in the 9th grade.
Their son, Rob and his wife, Brigett reside in Latrobe, PA. Grandchildren: Jacob, Rachael, Joseph, Robert, Samuel, and Rebecca, were cherished by Marie.
She was an extremely talented singer, who performed leading roles in musical comedies, solo work for oratorios, concerts and opera.

To me she was Miss Powell, my English and German teacher in high school. She was very patient with me. When our class celebrated our 50th reunion in 2007, she came, and all of us had a wonderful time with her. It was so nice to see her again.

Reverend Marie Reed was such an inspiration to everyone in her life. Her wonderful intellect and spirit will be missed on this earthly sphere, but the Saints in heaven are having a celebration.
