Dorotha Smith Dorotha Smith passed on March 22, 2013. Born Dorotha Elaine Nicolson, June 5, 1912, in Jackson, MO, her fierce independence allowed her to live by herself until two weeks before her 100th birthday. When she stopped driving at 98, the tiny redhead with amazing green eyes, would walk everywhere in her famous high heels, never wanting to be driven or "treated like an old lady." Her house was filled with pictures of famous people she had known, places she had been, party decorations, cocktail glasses, serving dishes, amazing shoes, and costumes she had sewn for the Shrine and Elks Club parties she loved so. She always kept the bird feeders full and toasted fresh bread crumbs for the ducks. She was exceptionally proud of not taking medication. If she were asked before she went if it was her time, her response would have been, "So be it!" She leaves behind her son, Jack (Ann) Olof; niece, Judy (Carl) Komora; grandson, Eric (Cindi) Olof; and great-grandchildren, Kristofer and Kersti Olof. Family prefers donations to the Lake County SPCA or Lakeport Elks Lodge #2704 fundraiser. A memorial will be announced at a later date.
