Marie Frances Simeone, 48, of Kensington, died Dec. 2, 2007 at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain.
A Berlin native, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and the late Helen (Kriwacki) Simeone, she graduated from Berlin High School in 1977, received her Bachelor's degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, a Master's degree in special education, and a Master's degree in reading, both from Columbia University, and was a teacher at St. Paul School in Kensington from 1981 to 1992, and currently at MS 54/Booker T. Washington Middle School in New York City.
She loved photography, traveling, reading, gardening, baking, and spending time with her family, was a member of St. Paul Church, the Mobilization of Change Community Garden, and served her school community in many aspects including yearbook advisor, and she and her students adopted a neighborhood fire department and police station after 9/11 where they baked goods for the departments, and started gardens and decorated at each department.
She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Cathy Simeone of Berlin and Christopher and Sue Simeone of Newington; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Catherine Lapollo, Terri and Larry Noyes, Tina and Dan Doyle, and George McIntyre, all of Berlin; aunts and uncles, Edwina Kriwacki and Antoinette Hutchinson of Kensington, David and Frances Pagini of Meriden, and Peter and Rosalie Kriwacki of Westfield; nieces and nephews, John Eric Simeone and his wife Meredith, Jenny and Alyssa Simeone, Scott Lapollo and his wife Jennie, Celine, Christy, and Joey Noyes, and Crystal Noyes who was also her goddaughter, Katie Doyle, and Maggie Doyle who was also her goddaughter, Molly and Kelsey Simeone, and great-nieces and nephews, Madison, Grant, Sawyer, and Layton Simeone, Oliver Lapollo, and Saoirse Noyes. She was predeceased by a sister, Judith Ann McIntyre, and a brother-in-law, Mark Lapollo.
Services were held Dec. 6, 2007 from Porter's Funeral Home, with a funeral liturgy at St. Paul Church. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
A memorial fund has been established to benefit Booker T. Washington Middle School 54 in New York City at "The Marie Frances Simeone Memorial Account, c/o TD Banknorth, 1127 Farmington Avenue, Berlin, CT 06037.
