Dale Fifield Obituary

RUTHER GLEN, Va. - Dale D. Fifield, Sr., 65, of Ruther Glen, Va., beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Fifield; his daughter, Dawn Long and her husband, Michael of Fredericksburg, Va.; his son, Dale Fifield, Jr., and his wife, Deborah of Southington; grandchildren, Emily and Madison Fifield; step-grandchildren, Jessica and Paul Majewicz; sisters, Sharon McMartin and her husband, Nyle of Jesup, Iowa, Janet Benjamin and her husband, Michael of Elizabeth City N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney (Buster) and Elizabeth (Betty) Fifield; sister, Beverly Stockwell; and brother-in-law, Edward Stockwell.

A U.S. Army veteran, Dale retired from the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Youth Services in 1993. He then worked for Hunter's Ambulance Service for 10 years before relocating to Virginia in 2003. Dale loved family and service to the community. A parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, he volunteered with the food pantry and homeless shelter. A member of the Lake Land Or' community, he served on the building and community relations committees.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's at Ladysmith, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Va., Sunday 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6 p.m. In honor of his memory, the family requests donations are made to St. Mary's Church Food Pantry, 10306 Ladysmith Road/P.O. Dear Linda and Family,
I had the pleasure of working with Dale here at Hunters Ambulance. I was Dale's supervisor for 8 years.I would be hard pressed to find a better man. Dale's spirit and dedication to his patients will remain here forever. He made everyone at the Mary Wade Home feel special everyday.
