Carol Ann Hensley – A Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Colleague and Hero…
With grace and dignity mom lived her life with passion and love for her family and many friends. Her personality was contagious. How do you even begin to sum up the life of an amazing woman who touched so many people!

Carol passed away in the comfort of her home with family by her side on November 3, 2010. Just 52 years and two days after marrying the love of her life Billy Floyde in Reno, Nevada.

Carol was born in San Francisco, California on December 29, 1936. She was the oldest daughter of five sisters and two half brothers of immigrant parents, Lilie and Jens Hov (Jacobsen). She was very proud of her Scandinavian heritage. Carol was active in her community; a member of Job's Daughters while attending Richmond High School ultimately serving as valedictorian for her class of 1955.

She was the loyal and loving wife of Billy Hensley, devoted mother of Vicki Satrap and Kenneth Hensley, beloved sister of Sandra Sanchez, Doreen (Bob) Allen, Ingrid Roberts, Diane Silva, Donald and Loren Hov, doting grandmother of Nicholas and Scott Waterworth, Kristi and Nicole Hensley, Jordan Satrap and recent great-grandmother of Eric Shaw.

Our hero, Carol fought a brave and vigilant battle against lung cancer. She is remembered by her passion for life and love for her family and many friends. She was a veracious reader and well versed on multiple topics. Her love of history and politics was the subset of many conversations.

Carol was the consummate professional and flourished in a long and lustrous career serving in many secretarial, executive assistant and managerial positions. Her career began in 1957 as a secretary at Beckman Instruments/Computer Operations division in Richmond, Ca. While she had many superior technical skills her proficiency in shorthand, a "lost art", was admired at a speed of 175 wpm. She earned the respect of her colleagues and superiors because of her ability to communicate on many levels. It seemed only natural that she would ultimately manage the personnel departments of companies including Zeltex, Inc./Silicon General, Inc. and Ott Water Engineers. After moving 33 years ago with her husband, Billy, to Lakehead, CA, she continued her second career in Redding at Ott Water Engineers, KRCR Channel 7 TV and ultimately the City of Redding in the Planning and Community Development department just prior to her retirement on March 4, 2000.

She will be deeply missed by all.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering in celebration of Carol's life on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 12 Noon, Lawncrest Chapel, 1522 E. Cypress Ave., Redding, Ca. Carol will be placed to rest at Northern California Veterans Cemetery, Igo, California. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to the American Cancer Society by following Carol's story on www.cancer.org/mosaic.com.

I worked with Carol Ann at the City of Redding. Always the most professional in her work. But you could not go into her office to talk to her without being prepared to laugh! Such a wonderful, caring spirit. I will truly miss her. - Wayne Gungl

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Carol... I have known Carol for about 40 years. I grew up with her daughter Vicki. What I remember most about Carol is that I have never seen her mad and she ALWAYS had a big smile on her face whenever I was around her! You were always laughing when you were around Carol... Got to tell you a funny story (that is what Carol would want...) When I was a kid, we would go down and visit Vicki when they lived in the court in Pinole. Seems like everytime we came down the hill and into the court, Bill would always be out front or in the garage. As we gingerly approached Bill and asked "is Vicki home", we would receive the obligatory grunt and nod towards the house. As we ran for the front door, we seemed to always be met by Carol and her big smile (whoo - we survived the entry). Carol was always happy to see you... She was a great mom and friend... I will miss her... Carol: As you look down on all of us, please remember that ï¿½What you left behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what you have woven into the lives of others.ï¿½

I too was very saddened to hear of Carol Ann's passing. I worked with her at the City of Redding for many years. We were all her kids and she looked after us like one of her own. She was the life of the office with her jokes and her laughter. My favorite memories were of her throwing her hands up and saying I've gotta go Bill says the snow is sticking! We all knew that one! We never saw her in pants, she was always quite classy in her long skirts. She was a beautiful woman and I am happy to have known her. Rest in peace, and many prayers to Bill and her family. I was sadded to hear of Carol Ann's passing. She was such a good friend and listner. I will always treasure her friendship. We met while we both worked at the City of Redding and our friendship continued after retirement. She was such a delight, always cheery, and a very classy lady. I will truly miss my friend. One of many memories I have of Carol is when we would go on one of Otis and Bill's excellent adventures, searching for the perfect camping and fishing spot. Otis and Venie were always concerned when Carol would bring out her lounge chair to lay in the sun. Venie's words to Otis, "Now Otis, Carol is going to get sun burned". And
you know what? She always did! She had the gift to make you feel so welcome in their home. You coud always count on popcorn, nuts or hot hors d'oeuvres being served. And you know what? They were the best snacks ever. But, it wasn't the tasty snacks, it was being in the presence of two wonderful people,Carol and my Big Brother. Thank you Bill for bringing Carol Ann into our familie's lives and enriching it with class and grace.
