Barbara Meurer Obituary

March 31, 1945 - October 26, 2010
Barbara Ann Meurer, beloved wife of Gary Meurer, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 following a gallant battle with cancer. Barbara was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 31, 1945. Her early years were spent on a Nebraska farm until the family moved to El Cerrito, CA in 1956.
After graduation from El Cerrito High School Barbara worked as a secretary bookkeeper. She met Gary at a Halloween party in 1979. A romance blossomed, resulting in a Valentine Day wedding in 1981. The couple lived briefly in San Pablo, then purchased property and built their own home in Napa. There Barbara earned a degree in Early Childhood Education and was a devoted teacher of pre-school children with Special Needs. Barbara and Gary moved to Redding in 1998 for Gary's job with Cal Trans, Barbara was a warm and caring person with a great love of animals, particularly her beloved dog, Niles. She enjoyed outdoor activities, traveling to new places, learning about history, people and cultures. Barbara was a talented artist who expressed herself in a variety of crafts, including quilting, stichery and in particular the art of decorative painting, whose charm filled her home and graced the homes of family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Gary, parents Kenneth and Patty Barada, brother John Barada, sister Margaret Matheson, in-law parents Joseph and Audrey Meurer, sister-in-law Karen Park and several much loved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 1 at the Redding First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Graveside services will take place at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito at noon on Wednesday, November 3. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be sent to Mercy Medical Center Redding Hospice Program in Barbara's memory.

Your house on 2nd Avenue will always stand as a tribute to the years of hard work and happy memories we shared with you there. Sipping on a cup of hot chocolate while sitting on a pile of sheetrock, special Halloween treats for the kids and their 4 legged friends, and all the love and thought that went into every handmade baby blanket will be cherished forever.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you now and in the days ahead.

Barbara was a gallant friend and I shall miss her greatly. Her humor, good sense and dedication to the welfare of her family, her appreciation for acquiring knowledge and understanding were exceptional. Seeing the mutual caring and devotion between Barbara & Gary over the past year has touched me deeply. I wish him strength and peace.

Barbara is one of the two most loving, caring, beautiful people I know. Gary is the other. Kids and animals would instantly bond with Barbara and Barbara likewise with them. Wishing Gary and his extended family the strenghth to get through this difficult time. I hope and pray that one day all the beautiful memories of Barbara will overshadow the pain of her loss.
With Love, Will Coats and daughter Sara.

Barbara will be sorely missed. She and Gary have been our wonderful next door neigbors for 6 years. They welcomed us to Redding on our first moving day. Barbara has taken care of our plants and home while we were on vacation. She gave me helpful advice on our garden plants. May God have a special place in Heaven for her and comfort Gary who has been a wonderful caretaker for her. Love, Leo and Barbara Cadotte
