To Lynn and Cindy. I am sorry for your loss. I never knew your father but as he worked at Ralph L. Smith my father most likely did.

With sincere condolences,

Tony

Ernie and Elmer were a pair to draw to. They were always finding a joke to brighten a meeting with them. I went deer hunting with them only to find they really wanted to get to Reno. It was an experience I tried to share with a national magazine but they wouldn't believe it - they only took true stories - so I just kept it here. I knew it was true and loved it. We'll miss Ernie so much. Few men saw humor in so many aspects of our lives. Ours was brightened by him.

Uncle Ernie. I’m better having known the man who lived a full life. To the man who never had a bad day or if he did, never let it show. Cheerful, upbeat, witty, energetic, and larger than life. Which way did it go, Virginia, Lynn, Tony, family had that affect on you or was it the other way around? I guess it doesn’t matter. All our lives were enriched.

Always a pleasure to be around you, always the life of the festivities. I was impressed with the 70th birthday bash thrown for you and Elmer. Your sons had to rent a ballroom in Reno to hold all the people who wanted to share the day with you. It was a day to remember! I cherish the memories and see the indelible affect you have left on all those whose lives you have touched.

You will be missed, terribly missed. But as you can see, you won’t be forgotten. Thank you for letting me share a small part of my life in your company.

As neighbors and friends we'll miss Ernie's smiling face and upbeat attitude. Denny will miss their highly debated political conversations, always in fun of course. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

Uncle Ernie leaves so many memories in my heart; funny, full of energy, quick wit, expressive, and loving. I will never forget flying to Cailfornia with Uncle Ernie and Uncle Elmer. They said don't be afraid--my first flight--it's a piece of cake. I sat in between them and they both had my hand--one on each side. Upon take off, they squeezed them so hard---it dawned on me---they were the ones who were nervous! When we landed we exited the plane on to the runway. Aunt Virginia didn't know I was coming. She was shocked to see them with a young woman. I think I was 16. That trip became just one of his funny stories. I never was much for writing in a guest book until my son passed away. I just want my family in California to know how sad we are back here in Michigan and that our thoughts and prayers are with you. With Love Suzy

As a child, I always looked forward to going to Uncle Ernie and Aunt Virginia's place. They always had a smile and a funny story or joke to share. I still remember trying to beat them at bocce ball. I never did. They must have been pros at that game. I will cherish my happy memories of my Uncle Ernie. I bet God is getting a kick out of his jokes, right about now. God Bless you!
