Franklin Spitzer Obituary

Franklin G. Spitzer

August 22, 1933 - November 11, 2010

Frank was born to Morris and Anna (Venezky) in Washington, DC on August 22, 1933.

After attending the University of Maryland and serving in the Navy aboard the USS Midway, the USS Coral Sea and other ships, he settled in Manhattan Beach, California and worked as an electronics technician for Northrop Corporation. It was there that he met his wife Pat. They were married December 15, 1956. Frank adopted Pat's two children and they later added a third child to their family.

Frank continued to work in the aerospace business for the rest of his career. After receiving his BA in Business from California State College (now University) at Long Beach in 1958, he became a Contracts Administrator for SuperTemp in Santa Fe Springs, California. He also worked for Marquardt Corporation in Ogden, Utah before joining TRW in Redondo Beach, California in 1972. He retired from TRW in 1992. Pat and Frank then moved to Redding, California. They also moved their travel agency, Your Travel and Tours, to Redding and Frank worked there for several years until they decided to close the agency and retire for real. Since then Frank has enjoyed gardening, home improvement projects and working jigsaw puzzles.

Over the years, Frank was active in a number of organizations, including a stint as a Boy Scout leader (he had earned his Eagle Scout as a young man). He was also a very active member of the National Contract Management Association (where he helped start several chapters). He earned his Master Cruise Counselor and was active in several travel organizations. The whole family enjoyed wonderful camping trips and other fun adventures and later Pat and Frank enjoyed many wonderful trips together.

Frank was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tanya, his son, Chris, his parents, Morris and Anna and his brother, David.

Frank is survived by his wife, Pat, his daughter, Patty and daughter-in-law, Sandy Graves, his granddaughter, Misty Bradley, her husband Troy and their children, Mackenna and Jacks, all of Redding, his daughter Jacki Breisacher, son-in-law, Lee, grandson, Tyler and granddaughter Paige, all of Manhattan Beach, California, grandson Joshua Spitzer of Casper, Wyoming and sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Leonard Samler of Huntingtown, Maryland and many nieces and nephews.

Frank requested no viewing or services but would want all who knew him to remember your favorite story about him and share it with love and laughter.
