Jackie Robertson Obituary

October 3, 1934 – September 20, 2010

On September 20, 2010, the Easter Bunny hopped down her final bunny trail.
Her story began October 3, 1934 in Oakland, California which qualified her for "Oakie" status. She grew up in Redding, hopped out of Shasta High School in 1953 and began working at U.S. Plywood. One night, in the alley behind Ricardo's, she met an Army man named Ken and they danced together all that night. Six months later, they were married in the Catholic Church and then moved to Santa Clara, California; didn't like it; moved back to Redding and lived in a $35 per month house complete with hot and cold running cockroaches.
Jackie was once leader of 2 Camp Fire Girls groups; was on the committee and chairperson of many Shasta High Class of 1953 reunions; was one of the editors of a Shasta County history book; president of TOPPS club and Rotary Anns; and was secretary and bulletin chairman of the Redding Elks R.V. club.
In 1986, she received a new Chrysler LeBaron convertible for Christmas. She would pick up a car load of girlfriends and drive in the rain with the top down after issuing each passenger an umbrella.
She was a "Gracie Allen" wannabe. When someone told a joke, she would act dumb and end up getting more laughs than the joke teller.
Her favorite card game was Skipbo which she called "{scatological name} on your neighbor." She was often accused of cheating, but never convicted.
She rivaled the Hallmark greeting card company by faithfully sending greeting cards to everyone she knew for every occasion. Hallmark company stock went up during her lifetime as she bought roughly 40 or more cards at a time.
She knitted Christmas stockings for all her friends and their children which included one measuring almost 5 feet long.
Jackie and Ken enjoyed RVing and had traveled all over the U.S. several times. She once earned her way onstage with Yakov Smirnov in Branson, Missouri where she revealed that the best birthday gift she ever received from Ken was a chain saw.
She was a NASCAR race fan through and through. She had been a trophy girl for Shasta Raceway as well as other racetracks in Alturas, Yreka, and Chico. She had been to the Daytona 500 twice where hubby Ken just yawned through it all. She often drove on the sidewalk claiming there was less traffic there.
She leaves behind her beloved husband Ken, daughter Teana and "super sis" Charlene Richelieu.
A mass for Jackie will be held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church on Gold St. in Redding followed by a huge wake at the Redding Elks Lodge with all food and drinks being supplied by Jackie.
In lieu of flowers, Jackie would love for donations to be made in her name to the "Redding Elks Barstool Replacement Fund" c/o Elks Lodge, 250 Elk Drive., Redding, CA 96003.
Happy Easter Jackie. We love you.

Ken - I just found out about Jackie's passing and, needless to say, was shocked. She was one-of-a-kind and we had some fun times together! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

JACKIE: proof that good things come in small packages. One of lumberman's drive most entertaining denizens. Many thanks for what you did for me.

I had the pleasure of being a classmate of Jackies, from kindergarten through our graduation from Shasta High in 1953. And I do agree with everyone who knew her that she was always "good for laughs!" Being in her circle of playmates and living only a block away from her while we were going to Magnolia School gave us an opportunity to put a "Fun Factor" into most everything we did. For many years she spearheaded our Shasta High Class of '53 reunions, and I think the success we continue to have with those is due in large part to Jackie's efforts, early-on! My condolences to the family.

I am very sad to hear about Jackie, She was one of a kind! You never forget the person that taught you it was OK to drive on the sidewalk. My heart goes out to you and if I can do any thing for you please call me.

Ken and Teana, I wish I could have been with you as you were with with my Brother and I when my Mother was about to enter heaven. The Robertson family was a part of our lives. And Ken your Wife and Teana your Mother were an integral part of our lives. Remember the good times we had in Palo Cedro
I value all of that time. Except the stupid horse.

Ken and Teana,

My thoughts are with you all and of Jackie. I feel honored that I had the privilege of having been a part of your lives as well as a "rent a grandson" for Rotary Christmas Parties and such. So many wonderful memories that I have of Jackie. She always made me laugh. I remember when she got the Chrysler for Christmas and being able to ride with her in it with the top down. I thought we were so cool. Thank you for the many wonderful memories, Jackie. I will never forget the kindness, love and laughter you always gave my Mother and Brother and I. Much love to you!!!

Ken and family, sorry to hear that Jackie has gone on to provide lots of laughs for those in heaven not too stuffy to enjoy her ribald sense of humor. The world has been a much happier place for her presence.
Sincerest sympathy,

As you share the stories
and the memories
of how she lived her life
and how very much she meant,
may you find comfort -
and, throughout this difficult time,
may you also know
the deep sympathy
and concern that is felt
for you and all your family.

...for neither time, nor distance,
nor death itself
can touch a love
that endures forever.

I will pray that God grants you strength and peace during this difficult time.

She Will Be
Remembered

Ken, Elana and I are so sorry to hear of Jackie's passing. She was indeed quite a gal. I know she will always be in your heart and mind and the pain will diminish with the passing of time.
