James Miller Obituary

1927-2010
Jim was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on February 14,1927. Escaping the dust bowl, he moved to California to begin a new life where he met and married his sweetheart, Ruby (Ma). They were married just shy of 60 years at her passing 2007.
Through all his adventures he spent time in the Army, fought in Korea and was the Motor Pool Sergeant until his retirement. He never met a Jeep he couldn't fix or a gun he couldn't shoot and was proud of his abilities. During his time in the military he also played baseball and boxed for the Army teams.
Volunteer work was a passion. Jim was "Santa" to scores of children and was "G-Pa" to many CVHS students whose lives he touched with stories of the road. For over 20 years he helped his fellow "seniors" as a RSVP volunteer.
Jim's accomplishments were many but the most precious to him was family. He had a strong loving family and a wonderful extended family including the Jones and Zanni's.
He is survived by his daughters Sue Barker (Butch) and Carol Mulrennan (Ed). His grandsons, all charter members of "Grandpa's Club", include C.J. Barker (Ami), Justin Barker (Liz), Casey Mulrennan (Keri), Ryan Mulrennan and Justin Laird (Hollee). He also had six great grand children, Taryn, Riley, Adelaide, Micah, Dax and Makenna.
Services will be held at Allen & Dahl on Eureka Way in Redding at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23. Jim did not want us to be sad but rather get together and tell stories, laugh and remember.
A celebration of Jim's life will follow at Sue's home at 3:30 p.m. For driving directions, call 275-2425.

Grandpa was the best G-pa anybody could ask for. His sound advice has shaped the way I am today. He used to say " take those damn rims and big tires off of your truck" but of course as a kid i didnt listen. Everything he had was earned. As conservative as he was with his spending , if he met someone who truly "needed" something he would give them the shirt off of his back.He worked hard for his family and risked his life for our country. Although I didn't follow his steps into the military . I still get a huge sense of pride everytime I see a flag flying or hear the star spangled banner. I see grandpa sittin there with his korean war hat and all of his memorabilia. His eyes would light up whenever he would talk about any of us grandkids. He found something in all of us to brag about. You will be truly missed , but we all know you've had one hell of a ride! And we'll see you on the other side if... " good lord willin the creek don't rise" I love you

My grandpa was the best G-pa anybody could ask for. I always looked up to him and his abilities to always be able to fix things. His sound but yet conservative advice shaped the way I am today. He would ask me to " take those damn rims and big tires off of your truck". But of course as a kid I didnt listen to him. He was the best Grandpa and showed his love to all of us grandkids. His eyes would light up whenever He would talk about us. He found something in all of us that he could brag about. He was thrifty with his spending , but if he saw someone who truly "needed" help he would give them the shirt off of his back. Everything he ever had was earned. He worked hard for his family and risked his life for our country. He was a true Hero! Although I didnt follow his steps with the military , I still get a huge sense of pride everytime I see a flag flying or hear the star spangled banner. I see my grandpa sittin there with his korean war hat and all of his memorabilia. Grandpa , You have touched so many lives in your time here and we all know you've had one hell of a ride! I love you and you will be missed. But we'll all get by if " good lord willin , the creek don't rise" Love , "GUS"
