Patricia LaCroix Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Grayce LaCroix (nee Young)

1927 - 2010

Patricia "Pat" LaCroix passed away at her home in Redding, surrounded by members of her family, on November 3, 2010.

Pat was born in Berkeley, CA on May 20, 1927 and was raised in Tacoma, WA. Pat was a graduate of Tacoma's Stadium High School, class of 1945, where she began what would become a life time of community service by being involved in many clubs and service organizations. Pat moved to San Francisco after graduation where she worked in fashion and modeling. Shortly after her arrival, Pat met her lifelong love, Terry, while sailing with friends on Lake Merritt in Oakland.

Pat and Terry were married 1947 and settled in Alameda, CA where they raised their six daughters. Throughout her life, Pat was a vibrant member of the community volunteering her time as CCD teacher at St. Joseph Basilica, serving as parent helper in classrooms at St. Joseph/Notre Dame and Franklin elementary schools while her daughters were school age. Pat was also involved as a parent leader for Girl Scouts of America, in Bud Branch serving Children's Hospital in Oakland, the Alameda Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Alameda Housing Authority which served low income families. She taught art classes at "The Factory" in Alameda and owned "The French Collection" boutique in Alameda.

Pat moved to Redding, CA in 1988, where she continued her years of community service by volunteering at Mercy Medical Center in Redding and by serving as a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Pat was an adventurous and creative woman. Throughout her life she enjoyed tennis, travel, hiking, cooking, sewing, painting, gardening, fashion and design, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family. Most of all she will be remembered as being an energetic and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

Pat is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Terry, their six daughters: Connie of Lake Tahoe, Cynthia of Alameda, Kim (Tom Harvey) of Albuquerque, NM, Sharon (James Snider) of Alameda, Kerri (Jim Monninger) of Durham, Becky (Andrew Milani) of Chico, her ten grandchildren: Ashley and Vivia LaCroix, Sam Benothman, Sam Harvey, Amanda Okomoto (Scott Okomoto) and Andrew Snider, Liam and Rory Monninger, Dominic and Brendan Milani, her two great-granddaughters: Citlali LaCroix, Chloe Okomoto, (and one on the way…), her brother Jerry Young and his wife Dee of Lake Oswego, OR and her brother-in-law, Dale LaCroix and his wife Helen of Danville, CA and many nephews and nieces.

A rosary will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Redding on Tuesday,
November 9th at 7:30 pm with refreshments to follow.
A private family burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery the following day.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mercy Medical Foundation - North
(www.supportmercynorth.org), the Shasta Women's Refuge (www.scwr.org) or to the charity of your choice.

Dear Terry and daughters,

My deepest sympathy to each and every one of you in your loss of your wife, mother and your best friend.

Terry,
We're so sorry to hear of Pat's passing.
She was a lovely lady and I always enjoyed the fact that we all attended the same church in Alameda and then in Redding, in fact moving here within a few years of each other. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Terry, I am very saddened by the news of Pat's passing. My heart breaks for you. I have always admired the wonderful love you showed one another and the picture of true partnership you two were. From my seat in the back at St. Joe I will miss seeing Pat sitting next to you but my prayers will be with you everyday. May the choirs of angels come to greet her...
