November 8, 1919 - November 6, 2010

Emmett was born in Los Angeles, California, November 8, 1919 to Roscoe and Ruth Parker. He graduated from Van Nuys High School and soon after met his bride to be, Edith Henry, whom he married December 6, 1940. He worked as a carpenter in the Los Angeles area until he moved his family to Palo Cedro in 1964, and continued in the construction business until his retirement in 1982. He was a volunteer with the Palo Cedro Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Edith.

He is survived by sons Bob (Sandy) of Shingletown, Dick (Morgan) of Live Oak and Tom (Luana) of Palo Cedro, daughter Jan Dawson (Bill) of Shingletown, eleven grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was surrounded by forty of his family members at his home when he passed from this world to join his Savior in Heaven and to be re-united with the love of his life, Edith.

He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held Thursday, November 11, at 11:00 at the Palo Cedro Odd Fellows Hall,
Silverbridge Rd., Palo Cedro.

I met a giant 33 years ago.

A wonderful friendship unfolded.

If I needed to talk to someone and be confident I would hear the absolute truth I would visit or call him.

If he gave me his word I didn't need a contract. His word was unquestioned.

He spoke no evil, did not spread rumors, give false hope, or pretend he liked you if he didn't. He was polite.

He laughed often, almost always carried a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes.

He cried like a child when renewing his wedding vows with Edith; unabashedly showing his total devotion to her.

My friend, the giant, enjoyed his life and the many blessings a very large family brought to him. He was husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, great-great grandfather. This colony of children he has lead for so many years was loved and cherished and they will most certainly continue to feel his love and influence as they move forward with their lives.

As a volunteer fireman, he put his own life at risk to help his neighbors be safe. The annual Palo Cedro Fire Hall dance was an enormous success each year he and his volunteer buddies and their wives hosted the dance. Rip Roaring Good Time may be a dated phrase but the Palo Cedro fire hall dance WAS always a rip roaring good time.

He and his sons and daughter are personally responsible for a lifetime of work to create a beautiful community in Palo Cedro and surrounding areas. Wherever his hammer stuck, there was quality in the making. Something substantial.

Parker Construction built my home in the late 1970's. When the project was complete, he gave me a key to my front door and said " This house will still be standing in 100 years." Not boasting but rather his guarantee of quality work.

Neither he nor I will be here to see it but I have absolutely no doubt it will be standing and loved by another family.

The giant I write about is my dear friend, Emmett Parker.

Thank you, Emmett, for your friendship. It will always remain my cherished gift.

Some of my favorite memories will be of the picnics and bbqs at Emmett's house. My family and I have been very blessed to have friends like the Parker family so close to us throughout our lives, Emmett and Edith were definitely two of my favorite people to be around. I know right now Emmett is in that big back yard in heaven, spending time with Edith again.

I was so blessed to have Emmett for my Grandpa! I couldn't have asked for a better Grandpa! He was always there for his family, and everyone that knew him was "family". He will be missed dearly, because he was loved dearly! He used to say he was the richest man in the whole world because he had so much love in his life. This he truly was! Love you Grandpa and I'll see you again someday! Beck~

I was a volunteer fireman with Emmett. For the last few years I would see him when I drove by the house and wave. I always meant to take time to stop and have a cup of coffee and chat with him. I never did. Well, Emmett, this cup of coffee is for you!
