Jon Randall "Randy" Walden

Jon Walden Obituary

Jon Randall "Randy" Walden Aug. 3, 1962- June 15, 2010 Randy Walden was born in Fontana, CA to Joe and Virginia Walden. He grew up in Clovis, CA and attended McLane High School where he starred in water polo and swimming. He later graduated from San Francisco State University and obtained his master's degree from California State University Dominguez Hills. During his too brief lifetime, Randy was a waiter, bartender, commercial fisherman, actor, model, photographer, writer, philosopher and teacher. He loved to swim, fish, dive, sail and travel. While in the Army, he attended the Defense Language Institute where he became fluent in the Spanish language. As a result, he was able to fulfill his lifetime desire to travel in Europe and established residence in Madrid, Spain. In Madrid he met, fell in love and married Monica Torres-Coronado. Their love and devotion was a wonder to behold. It was a love that most experience only in their dreams. Randy was a loving, caring, compassionate, fun loving, intelligent, introspective person who was filled with a zest for life. He loved people but detested hypocracy and phoniness. Randy is described by his closest friends as one who was frustrated by the mundane and inspired by passion. He waged a long and heroic battle with cancer. He was actively involved with the doctors in fighting this disease. When he realized that the end was near, he approached death without fear and his concerns shifted to the welfare of his family and friends. He showed all around him how to approach death with love, courage, grace and dignity. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Monica; father, Joe and his second mother, Joanie; brothers, Richard and James; nieces, Faith, Blanca and Monica; and many close friends. Memorial services to celebrate Randy's life will be held on Friday, June 25 at 7:30 pm at Wayfarers Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes.

There are people you encounter and will never forget, Randy & Monica are two of them. I remember clearly the day I met you guys. I wasn't your nurse but had stopped by your room to help. I knew there was something special that moment. It was an honor to know and care for Randy. I can't describe how it felt to be around you two, but you guys were like a magnet and I was in awe of the love that was felt. Randy was amazing in his strength & perseverance during his struggle. Monica I will never forget either of you and I hope you have found comfort in him no longer suffering. Love you both dearly!

I was so sad to hear of Randy's passing. We met in highschool when I was a sophmore and he was a senior, and bonded over our love of theater. We reconnected a few years ago, shortly, I believe, after he married Monica. He was so happy and truly sounded as though he had found his rightful place in the world. Unfortunately, after a few emails, we lost touch again, but he has always held a special place in my heart. Monica and Walden family- you are in my thoughts and prayers. He was always the big brother I never had.

Much love-
