Edward Ballance Obituary

Edward D. Ballance AYDEN - Edward Douglas Ballance, 74, died Friday, July 24, 2009. A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Ballance, a native of Pitt County, was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he received numerous accommodations. After his military service he returned to Pitt County and went to work with his brother-in-law at Carraway Typewriter Company, now known as Carraway Office Solutions, where he worked until his retirement in February 2009. He enjoyed working on old cars, fishing, and spent many enjoyable hours visiting with friends at Bojangles. He had a special bond with children, especially his nieces and nephews. A kind person by nature, he loved caring for animals including strays which he often gave a home. Mr. Ballance was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Emma Pearl Pollard Ballance; brothers, James Lloyd Ballance and Elton R. Ballance; and brothers-in-law, Sidney V. Carraway, Sr. and Gene P. Baker. He is survived by his family: brother, Charles Ballance, of Havre de Grace, Md. and his children, Lisa Lambert and Dee Dee Hodges; great-nephew, Charlie Litchfield; great-nieces, Maikayla Hodges and Carol Ann Litchfield; sisters, Bernadine B. Carraway of Greenville, and her sons, Sidney V. Carraway Jr. and James Burney Carraway and wife, Pam; great-nephews, Chad Carraway, Hayden Carraway, and Bryson Carraway; great-nieces, Lauren and Maddy Carraway; Judy B. Baker, of Greenville, and her son, Charles Kevin Baker and wife, Denise, niece, Shanna Baker and great nieces, Coral Rose Baker and Jessica Hassell; and great nephew, Christopher Carr; sister-in-law, Doris Ballance; nephews, Rudy, Randy and Thomas Ballance and nieces, Diane and Kim Ballance; and his family and many friends at Bojangles. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Online condolences at www.wilkersonfuneralhome.com.

I haven't seen Mr. Ballance in a long time, but when I worked at an attorney's office, he serviced our old typewriters - and he was the nicest man. I enjoyed talking to him - he always brought a smile to my face. Keep him in your heart and his memory will awaken your spirit. Your family is in my prayers
