Eva Best Obituary

EVA ROSE SELF BEST
Bradshaw, Texas
Eva Rose Self Best, 98, died in Atria Vista Del Rio Assisted Living, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, April 14, 2010. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Bradshaw Baptist Church with the Reverend Ed Bigham officiating. Burial will be in Bradshaw Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.
Eva was born October 30, 1911, in Ovalo, to Millard Filmore and Margaret Jane Coley Self. Eva was the last surviving member of her class at Ovalo High School. She married Wesley W. Best February 15, 1934. The couple lived most of their married life in Bradshaw where they operated a mechanic shop primarily for the repair of farm equipment. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Wesley's death in 1996. Eva had an extraordinary memory and knew many people in south Taylor and North Runnels counties, how they were related, who married whom, and much about their lives through several generations. During the late stages of the Great Depression and World War II, Eva taught many folks how to can and preserve food. She and Wesley almost always had a garden. Wesley often remarked that you didn't have to pay income tax on food you grew.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one sister, Wilma Dee Wilder; and a brother, Hilbin (Slim) Self.
Survivors include two daughters, Zilla Rose Best Partee of Big Spring and Norma Faye Best Morgan and husband Jerry of Boulder City, Nevada and Los Alamos, New Mexico; and one sister, Beatrice Childers of Abilene.
Survivors also include the following descendants: grandchild, Mariam E. Morgan-Smith and husband Dennis and their daughters, Lauren Faye Morgan-Smith, and their granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah, and a grandson, Wesley; grandchild, Jenica Marie Morgan-Smith-Cline and husband Andrew and their granddaughter, Margaret and grandson, Oliver, all of Albuquerque, and grandchildren Merik Morgan of Bozman, Montana, and Marsh Morgan and wife Sarah of Los Alamos; grandson Devin Partee and wife Judy of Abilene, and their children: Ashley Partee, of Abilene, and Rose M. Partee of San Antonio; Terry Barber and wife Kerri of San Antonio and their son, Noah; Bobby Barber and wife Vicki of White Oak, and their children, Bo and Jasmine; and Crystal Barber of Dallas; Stephanie Brown and husband Luke of Abilene, their children Tara, Matthew and Izabella; grandson Richard Partee and wife Sidney and their six children of Breckenridge, Michael, Michele, Varian, Chance, Courtney and Samantha; Becky Kennedy and her two sons, Chris and Anthony, and her three granddaughters; Tommy Partee and his three daughters, one granddaughter and one grandson; Pat Vanover and her daughter, son, two granddaughters, and two grandsons, and one great-grandson; and Jeanette Ross and her daughter, son, and six grandsons; and several other relatives.

Memories of Aunt Eva are many. The stories she could tell and her longevity. Wow, we have lost a wealth of history. She loved her family. Always caring her brag book of her grandchildren. You were welcomed around their table at meal time. Lots of laughter. Domino games played. She had time for neighbors and friends. There were plenty of bandaids, ointment for scrapes and cuts with lots of hugs. The good times and love that she showed will be missed. I feel that she had a deep faith that kept her going these many years, Not that she talked about it but by the way she treated her fellowman. The family has lost a real matriarch. To Rose and Norma your mother will be missed. Take heart in being or becoming the person God intended you to be so you can meet her in the grand scheme of things which is eternity. My prayers are with you. Please draw strength that your mother is with her Lord. Love you, Jeanette Lincoln (Midland, TX)

I have alot of memories of going to grandma and grandads when I was small. There was always plenty to eat and a glass of milk to go with it.
My daddy married Zilla Rose when I was 6,and I announced OH BOY!!! I am a Best now.
I was out of touch with the family for lots of years. I have to say though,
grandma and grandad were honest and very hard working people. They were loved and respected. They did alot for my daddy when he returned to school at middle age. For that I am truly grateful.
Grandma and grandad are together now, no more pain and suffering. Their love lives on in our hearts.
