BETTY THOMSEN Obituary
Abilene
Betty Jean Thomsen (Dungan) went home to be with her Lord on November 5, 2011 after a short illness. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Kimbrough Funeral Home in Cisco, Texas. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco, Texas. Reverend Zach Tunnell will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time.
Betty was born on March 24, 1932 to Perry Earl and Eulala Dungan. She was the youngest of 6 children and was raised in the Baird/Putnam area. She graduated as valedictorian of her Baird high school class in 1949, and earned her bachelor's degree at Hardin Simmons University in 1953. After college graduation, Betty stayed in the Abilene area, and was a high school teacher of English and math, and coached girls basketball and volleyball.
A few years later in Abilene, Betty founded Poor Boy Movers, and ran this business for about 25 years from the mid 1960's to the mid 1980's. Through that work she met her husband, Donald L. Thomsen, and they were married on June 6, 1967. Betty and Don lived in the Abilene area the remainder of their lives. Betty loved crocheting, knitting, and working on projects around the house.
Betty is survived by her 3 children, Gary Lackey and wife Lisa of Dallas, Debbie Loard-Whitten and husband Steve of Greenville, and Donna Thomsen of Comer, Georgia. Grandchildren include Brandon Lackey of Lubbock, Kaleena Loard of Plano, and Jessie
Ventimiglia of Comer, GA. Other survivors include nieces, nephews and friends. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband and 5 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas 79601, Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Hendricks Hospice inpatient program for their support at this difficult time.
