Ellis Wilson Miller, 72, of Rexburg passed away Jan. 16, 2012, at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt lake City, Utah, with his wife and children at his side.
Born to George and Sylvia Miller in Twin Falls on June 27, 1939, he grew up in Twin Falls and graduated from Twin Falls High School. He then received his bachelor's degree from BYU in physics, and went on to earn his Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Arizona.
He married Karren Lea Malstrom on Dec. 19, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple. During his life, he touched the lives of thousands of individuals. He was a professor of both physics and astronomy and ran the planetarium for 30 years at Ricks College/BYU-Idaho.
He served in many callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishop, stake presidency, high council, temple worker and many other callings. He served two missions; his first in Germany and a second with his wife to the Morristown New Jersey Mission.
He loved teaching, astronomy, stargazing, archaeology, nature, traveling and visiting ruins throughout the world.
He had a love of music, especially classical music. Playing the organ was a favorite past time. He enjoyed spending time with his wonderful wife and being with his family. He had an endearing sense of humor and loved to laugh.

Dear Karren and family, Ellis was a wonderful fellow and a special cousin to me. He was so good to encourage me. I still remember our homecoming date at Logan. He was so sweet to invite me. He made sure I had a good time.I have enjoyed his love and encouragement thru the years. He truly had his dream of being a good Husband and Father fulfilled in all of you. You know of his love and his testimony of the Gospel. Now rejoice in those beautiful memories you have made together. Our prayers are with you all.Your Cousin
