Claude Chaplin Obituary

Claude Sumner

CHAPLIN

Claude Chaplin, 94, died peacefully on December 28, 2007 at Manor Care. He was born in Colorado, and moved with his family to Oregon at the age of 13. Like his father, Claude was a very talented man, and drifted around to many locations, working at a variety of occupations. He had a deep knowledge of mining and geology, was an excellent mechanic and welder, and could fix or build just about anything. About 30 years ago, Claude settled down, living in a cabin at the Pyramid Mining District. A life-long reader, he continued to read until his death, expanding his focus on the west and history to include large-print mysteries.

Claude was preceded in death by his two sons, John Chaplin and Charles ”Chuck” Chaplin; his father, Francis J. Chaplin; his mother, Elizabeth Sumner Chaplin; two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his brother Harry Chaplin of Tionesta, CA; son, Glen Chaplin; daughters, Phyllis Sterling, Claudia Oliveira and Mary Lou Channell, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all who live in Kansas.

Family and friends are invited to gather January 16, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Crosby‘s Lodge in Sutcliff, to remember Claude and share potluck.
