Dear Dan,
Thank you for all the kindness and thoughtfulness you showed to me throughout my life. You had dad's gentle spirit and mom's strong, deep love of family. These are wonderful characteristics that made you beloved by your brothers and sisters, parents, wife, children, grandchildren and friends. I remember you sending red roses to mom on "your" birthday.(Very classy!) I remember you insisting that mom allow me to take swimming lessons when I was about 8 years old. She was afraid to because she didn't swim, but you convinced her and she let me go. 8 years later, those lessons came in handy when I followed your lead and taught swimming and worked as a life guard. Many good memories. I remember you calling me to check on me & boost my spirits at different times, especially when Steve was deployed. I remember you surprising me with your phone call on my birthday last December. We talked for an hour and a half about mom & dad, fun memories & family. I remember how proud I was of you when mom wrote to me and told me how you had saved a teenage girls life, whose car had swerved off the icy road and went into the river. You pulled your car over, went into the icy water, kicked the car window in and pulled her to safety. Her parents couldn't stop thanking you for weeks. How many people would be so selfless & courageous? How may people can claim to have a hero in their family? Thank you for all your love & kindness through the years. I have always prayed daily for you, my brothers & sisters and all our family. Mom and dad taught us to do this and I will continue to keep you, your very loving children and all our family in my prayers.
