Milton Hendricks Obituary

Milton James Hendricks

December 5, 1931

January 10, 2014

Milton James Hendricks Jr, 82, passed away peacefully on Jan. 10 in Yuma, AZ. He was born December 5, 1931 in Garland, UT to parents Faye Bowcutt Watson and Milton James Hendricks Sr.

His family moved to Sparks when he was in the 9th grade. He attended Sparks High School and was a member of the 1948 football team that is often remembered in local athletic memoribilia. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Wilson in 1948, and they were married until her death in 2005. Milton was an honest hard working family man. He had a variety of jobs, often two at a time. He retired from the Sparks Police Department after 20 years of service in 1984. He moved to Portola, California and spent his winters in Yuma, Arizona. He and Dotty loved family and friends, camping, ATVing, crafts, cooking and Boise State Football, where their grandson was the quarterback. They established a remarkable recreational property in Plumas County, known to many as Miltsville, USA. This enchanting private camp spot has been enjoyed by the entire family and many friends for some forty years and continues to be a favorite place where great memories are made.

Milt enjoyed a simple good life and a long retirement. He will be missed very much by a family that was happy and proud to have loved "Big Gramps". We had that special family dynamic, that if you know one of us, you know the whole family! He will be cremated in Yuma, Arizona, and he will join his wife and greatgranddaughter, Torey, in a beautiful peaceful little meadow at Miltsville in the spring.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Dorothy Hendicks . He is survived by brother, Jay Dee Hendricks of St. George Utah; sister, DeAnna Farris of Fernley; daughter, Carol Bender (James); son, Bart Hendricks (Daylene); grandchildren, Chad Bender (Susie Heuer), Brandee Ambrosia (Jeff), Barton Hendricks (Kelly), and Dayton Hendricks; and great grandchildren, Payton, Sydnee, Alexis, Kennedy, Christina and Record. He also leaves behind a number of brother and sister in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, the entire Dayton family, and friends and families surrounding Miltsville.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

Milt was a great person with a kind and gentle heart for his family. We knew Milt for a few years and shared many memorable times with him, especially our ATV rides, one in particular the Gerlach ride. We went over 80 miles and he kept right up, but found out later he was dealing with issues, but never complained. We knew him for a short time but he made us feel like we knew him for a lifetime and he treated us like family. We miss you and thank you "for the memories".

I dearly loved Uncle Milt, as I soon refered to him.. When I started at Sparks P.D. In 1973 I was just a kid, who looked up to Uncle Milt!! He was always bigger than life, a joy to be around!! I always felt he was a rock for me while trying to learn how to be a good Police Officer!! I hadn't seen Uncle Milt in many, many years but he was always one who once you knew him, was one of your dearest friends for life!!! I retired from Sparks P.D. In 1983, worked in Oklahoma in Law Enforcement 4 years, then finished my career with Elko S.O. In 2011.. With over 37 years.. Uncle Milt was someone to be emulated as he was many young officers role model for many many years!! I will carry his wonderful memory, his wonderful laugh and intimidating presents with me until my Lord and Savior also calls me Home.. God Bless Uncle Milt, thanks for all the lives you touched!! You made this Godless world a better place, thanks for the wonderful memories, that no one can take away!! God Bless his Family and countless friends!!

It has been almost two weeks since our dear Milt passed. I know I speak for my family when I say that my father was a true mans man. He was tough when he needed to be and yet was quick to offer a shoulder to cry on. He is still very much loved and respected by my wife Daylene and I and our two boys. I would like to take this opportunity and thank all of you who have shared warm thoughts and memories of this great man. All of the entries are greatly appreciated and I will continue to look forward to the kind words added to this guest book by all those who Milt has touched in some way. Thanks again to all and most importantly, Thank You Dad.

My condolences to the family on Milt's passing. I recall our first meeting while he was working at the Sparks jail when Mark Crosby, Marshals Office, took me there to meet him. We became good friends and he ran a "tight ship" and knew everything that was going on. He was a great source of information and a good friend. I have thought of him often. I will pray for the family and my friend Milt.

We haven't seen Milt in several years, but when Chick worked for Sparks, he and Milt were good friends. Bart often carpooled with Chick when both were working for the city. Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire family. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him.

Milt and I were classmates at SHS. I haven't seen Milt for years, but I remember him well. A good guy. Sad to hear of his passing.

Few people can point to one man and say "You changed my life". The reason I became a cop was Milt. His example, the way he carried himself. The cop across the street that treated me so fairly when I messed up.

We will miss our dear Milt like we do our dear Dottie. We were blessed to have shared Miltsville West and South with them for many many wonderful years. We were so lucky in that they kind of adopted us in the early years. How cool is that! Plus we get to play with the real kids and grandkids.

January 18, 2014

He added so much to our lives. Our family will always love and miss him. The property will always hold great memories of him and all he did for us just by being himself.

Such a great guy. He will be missed. We will treasure our memories of time spent with him and his family.

January 18, 2014

52 years of my life included this gruff-looking man. Yet he was a softy inside and as generous as they come. He was loved by so many for so long. I will cherished my memories of Milt and Dotty and will talk about them often at the "property" this summer and continue to talk about them both for the rest of my life with both laughter and tears. I am so lucky to have had Mr. And Mrs. Milton Hendricks throughout the majority of my life as mentors and friends.

In addition to being my big brother, Milt was also my life-long best friend. Since I was born in a small farming community at our Grandmother's house, Milt was right there (under the bed) during my birth. He has been my idol and champion from day one. I will miss him!

January 16, 2014

Milt was a kind, caring and gentle man. We are so blessed to have known him. We so enjoyed his stories of the years he spent in Sparks. The 'forest' will not be the same without him.
