Shirl Elliker Obituary

Shirl T. Elliker

Shirl Elliker passed away on February 16, 2014.

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, he is survived by his wife Gay Elliker; daughter, DiAnn Hutson (John), daughter, Janet Fabrizio (Craig); son, Jim Elliker; daughter, Laura Steffens (Chris); daughter Linda Elliker. Grandchildren Rand, Callie, Wes, Kayla, Amanda, Kate Lynn, Dustin, Jocelyn, Ben, Lincoln; great grandchildren Hunter and Davis; sister Mary Gillins (Jim).

He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Rosella Elliker; Brother Dennis Elliker; grandson Tyler Hutson.

Shirl was born in St. George, UT and was raised in Panaca NV. He married Gay Cartwright in the St. George LDS temple in 1956. They lived in Las Vegas, NV for 18 years where Shirl was a barber and owned/operated 3 barber shops.

They moved to Reno in 1973. Shirl retired from Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors as a real estate photographer. He loved driving in his truck and taking pictures all over Northern Nevada.

He loved hunting and fishing with his friends and sons. He spent several years restoring his '59 Ford Pick-up Truck and cruised in Hot August Nights. 49er games and tailgating at Candlestick was where you would find Shirl and Gay every Fall.

While his children were growing up he was active in the Scouting program and served as the Derby Director for the Northern Nevada Soap Box Derby.

Retirement was when things really got busy. Shirl and Gay owned antique businesses and Tanners Market Place where he enjoyed fun and friendships with so many wonderful people.

We will miss his kind, gentle heart and his grin that held so much mischief and fun. We are forever grateful for the love and commitment that he so passionately devoted to his family. We are so lucky that he is ours.

A viewing will be held Thursday February 20th from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Walton's Sierra Chapel on 2nd St. and Vine, Reno. Funeral services to be held February 21st at 11:00 AM at the LDS Chapel 2505 Kings Row, Reno.

For Gay and Shirl's Family ~~ Your family Patriarch was a kind and considerate man who was so instrumental in making the All-American Soap Box Derby a part of Reno. May you all find peace and strength from God as you beloved departs for his home with the Creator.

To Gaye and all of the Elliker family,I am so sorry to hear about Shirl. He was such a wonderful friend to so many of us. I loved sharing an office with Shirl, and missed him so much when he retired. I loved hearing his stories about his children growing up, and the things Gaye and he would do on the weekends. His family was always the most important thing in his life. My thoughts are with all of you.

I am so saddened to learn of Shirl's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Shirl at the Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors for 12 years prior to him retiring. He was always such a pleasant, sweet and caring man. He always had a smile for everyone and never a cross word passed his lips. My thoughts and prayers are with Gay and all of Shirl's family and friends. He will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest in peace my friend.
