James Claude Mabe obituary, Bedford/franklin, VA

James Mabe Obituary

James Claude Mabe, 68, of Moneta, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Robert Mabe and Thelma Virginia Mabe; brother; Charles Mabe; and son-in-law, Donald Wayne Ball. He was born in Tazewell on November 14, 1943. James graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Mechanical Engineering. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam. After having lived various places on the east coast, his dream of living at the lake was realized when he moved to Moneta in 2006. There he enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Connie Marie Mabe; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Beth Mabe, Cyndi Jo Ball, Jamie Marie Davis and husband, William; grandchildren, Matthew James Ball, Allissa Faye Ball; sisters, Zelma Lanier Mabe, Evelyn Perdue; sister-in-law, Alberta Mabe; brothers-in-law, Thomas and Kathy Chafin, Edward and Tammy Chafin; nieces, Christy Szakacs, Maria Tabor, Jennifer Collins, Sandy White, Michelle Crigger; nephews, Wayne Mabe, Jeff Perdue, Edward Chafin, Thomas Chafin; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was a devoted husband and father.
Funeral Services will be conducted from Halesford Baptist Church 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, with Pastor Melvin Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park with military honors. His family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Halesford Baptist Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount-Smith Mountain Lake.
